About Jackie
I have Bachelor's degrees in Physics and Computer Science with a specialty in Astrophysics from Iowa State University. I also have a Master's in Astrophysics from UC Berkeley. I'm now working on completing my PhD at Berkeley, where I develop and apply machine learning techniques to different areas of astronomy. I have research experience in gamma ray astronomy, applied machine learning, star formation, Bayesian data analysis, gravitational lensing, and binary stars.

I've taught discussion sections for a couple of introductory courses, but I prefer to work with students one-on-one, which is why I'm a tutor! I'm happy to work with you on anything from introductory to advanced material.
I love astronomy and physics and can't wait to help you with whatever you need - understanding concepts, completing homework, studying for exams, doing practice problems, etc. I like to use a lot of visual aids and give plenty of examples. I am a very patient and understanding teacher; I always rephrase explanations in multiple ways and will never get frustrated with you if something isn't clicking.
I enjoy getting to know my students and how they learn best. If you choose me to be a long-term tutor for you, I'll check in for feedback on how I'm doing from time to time and adopt any changes accordingly. If you choose to do only a single session, I promise to keep the session very focused so that you can get as much out of our time together as possible.
