About Joshua

Hello! I am Josh, a First-Class Psychology graduate, Graduate Member of the British Psychological Society (GMBPsS), and an active researcher. I specialise in bridging the gap between complex psychological theory and the practical, high-scoring execution of university-level research.
Having successfully founded and led an undergraduate research skills group, I know exactly where students get stuck. My tutoring approach is pragmatic, supportive, and heavily focused on building your confidence in academic writing, critical analysis, and software proficiency. Alongside my academic work, I am an experienced DSA Non-Medical Help (NMH) Specialist Mentor, meaning I am highly skilled at providing structured, accessible, and low-anxiety pacing for neurodivergent students (including ADHD, Autism, and dyslexia).

My Methodological & Software Expertise
I don’t just teach theory; I train you to master the exact tools required for elite-level undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations:
• Quantitative Analysis: Full support in navigating statistics, hypothesis testing, and model building using SPSS and open-source alternatives like Jamovi.
• ️ Qualitative Analysis: Expert guidance in thematic analysis, framework analysis, and Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) using NVivo, QualCoder, and Taguette.
• ️ Specialist Lab Software: Practical guidance on eye-tracking experimental design and data processing with Tobii Pro Lab (on-campus workflows).
• Open Science & Data Management: Streamlining your research workflow from literature mapping to publishing using Zotero, OSF (Open Science Framework), and Zenodo for robust data archiving.
️ Academic Writing & APA 7th Mastery
• APA 7th Compliance: Comprehensive editing and auditing of your text, in-text citations, tables, figures, and final bibliographies to ensure zero lost marks.
• Critical Argumentation: Moving your writing from "descriptive" to "critical" by teaching you how to rigorously evaluate psychological literature and evidence.
• Structural Coaching: Structuring introduction sections, literature reviews, and formatting quantitative/qualitative discussion sections to align perfectly with university grading rubrics.

How We Will Work Together
Whether you are panicking about an upcoming statistics assignment, drowning in qualitative coding, or staring at a blank dissertation proposal, we will break it down into manageable, stress-free milestones.
During our initial consultation, we will audit your marking rubric, outline your data requirements, and map out a clear step-by-step strategy to maximise your grade. Let’s take the stress out of your psychology degree!

I support undergraduate (BSc) and postgraduate (MSc) Psychology students who are facing high-stress academic hurdles. Whether you are struggling to pass an advanced statistics module, feeling lost in qualitative transcripts, or trying to structure a complex dissertation, my goal is to make the process completely transparent and manageable.
As a trained DSA NMH Specialist Mentor, I do not believe in a "one-size-fits-all" approach. I tailor my pacing entirely to your learning style, providing low-anxiety, highly structured, and neurodivergent-friendly (ADHD/Autism/Dyslexia) support. There are no stupid questions in my lessons.

️ What a Typical Session Looks Like
Our lessons are collaborative, interactive, and completely goal-oriented. We don't just sit and talk through abstract textbooks—we actively work on your specific project barriers:
• Live Screen-Sharing & Walkthroughs: We will open up SPSS, NVivo, Jamovi, or QualCoder together. I will guide you step-by-step through data cleaning, running analyses, or text coding so that you actually learn how to use the software independently.
• Interactive Rubric Auditing: We look directly at your university’s marking guidelines. We will map out exactly what your examiners are looking for in an Introduction or Discussion section to make sure you hit every single grade boundary.
• Workflow Automation: I will show you how to set up tools like Zotero to automatically handle your APA 7th referencing, saving you hours of stressful formatting before a deadline.

What You Get Outside of Lesson Time
Learning doesn't stop when the video call ends. To ensure you feel completely supported between our scheduled slots, I provide:
• Shared Workspace Folders: Access to clean datasets, code syntax templates, or qualitative coding frameworks we build together.
• Step-by-Step Checklists: A brief, clear summary of "next steps" after every lesson so you always know exactly what to work on next.
• Resource Toolkits: Custom guide sheets on open-science workflows (OSF/Zenodo) or specific qualitative methodologies like Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA).

Transparent Pricing & Dissertation Packages:
• 100% Online via Zoom/Teams: No travel fees, no hidden costs. All rates include live screen-sharing and interactive data walk-throughs.
• First Lesson Free (30-60 Mins): This is a structured Diagnostic Consultation. We will open your dataset/assignment brief, audit your university marking rubric, and map out a step-by-step roadmap to hit your target grade. No teaching takes place in this slot—it is strictly for project planning.
• Recommended Thesis Packages: Because statistical analysis (SPSS/Jamovi), qualitative coding (NVivo/QualCoder), and APA 7th formatting cannot be mastered in a single hour, I highly recommend booking a 5-hour or 10-hour package. These blocks offer a built-in discount, guarantee your weekly slots in my schedule, and provide comprehensive milestone support right up to your submission deadline.
