About Deborah

I'm a UK native speaker, with over 17 years of teaching experience in the UK and internationally. I understand that progressing from intermediate to advanced English is about so much more than simply learning longer vocabulary lists or more complicated grammar. It’s about learning how to think, respond and express yourself naturally in English.

I have a degree in English, a postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE) and a teaching English as a foreign language certificate (Tefl) . I've taught in state and private schools and I've taught more than 1000 lessons online.

I'm a married mum of two grown up boys and I love walking my dog, reading and travelling.

About the lesson

My lessons are fun, very interactive and a safe space to make mistakes and grow. They last one hour using Microsoft Teams and during this time I will iron out any issues with grammar using gentle correction. The focus is on elevating your English with advanced vocabulary and natural idiomatic English.

I have a vast library of resources and a deep understanding of how to take intermediate English speakers to advanced level. Confidence is just as important as grammar and very quickly your self-assurance will soar with my expert guidance. Many of my students joined me at a B1 level and I have taken them through B2, C1 and some of them are still with me and working towards C2.

I have lots of experience coaching students successfully for the IELTS/C1 speaking tests and can recreate the exam format and provide lots of help with, for example, structuring answers to maximise marks, hesitation devices and dealing with unfamiliar questions.

If you need English for the workplace you may be interested to hear that I had a ten-year career in journalism and public relations - so I can offer professional level advice and support.
