About Mr Lee

A qualified teacher with an overall understanding of the British secondary school curriculum, I set up as an English tutor several years ago. With my personal experience of British people and literature, I have been attempting to forge a kind of English tuition that is culturally and interculturally informing and relevant at the same time to the various practical learning purposes of local students.

At the heart of my teaching has been the aim to inspire students to greater expressive use of English. Any instance of ideas and feelings precisely and elegantly expressed in this language never fails to please me, as does witnessing students do so to their own satisfaction. The thought that what I have learned and been impressed with about English, especially through literary studies, can be usefully applied to all forms of communication, and that I am engaged with its fresh and original use every time I help students respond to a topic of discussion keeps me going as a teacher.

I read and write alongside teaching. I am currently editing a set of articles about authors and historical subjects that I previously wrote for GCSE English Literature students. I hope to make them suitable for general readership and use them as key texts for the cultural English course I wish to run for any interested individuals.

English

My lessons demonstrate a whole range of vocabulary and sentence structures appropriate for secondary school students and advanced learners of the language. For students preparing for exams and proficiency tests, I get them to practise question-specific idea generation, elaboration and organising techniques that ensure their responses show both the natural characteristics of language competence in thought formulation and expression as well as the expected content and structures that meet the criteria for high marks. Students can benefit greatly from my specially written and carefully curated articles, which treat the respective topics in a focused and coherent manner. Students would also be inspired to greater expressive use of the language through reading and analysing exemplary pieces of creative writing.
