About Martin
My home language is Afrikaans. I attended Afrikaans schools for both primary and high schools. My children are fully bilingual. When I started my tertiary education I chose "kommunikasie in Afrikaans" as one of my subjects. I eventually passed this subject, together with "communication in English" with distinctions through Unisa. I present my lectures primarily in English for legislative purposes only. Ironically, most of my students are Afrikaans-oriented and as such it sometimes happens that I have to explain concepts in Afrikaans for better comprehension. I am therefore one hundred percent sure that I can and will contribute positively in securing better exam or test results for any participating individual.

A well-prepared lesson plan is essential for teaching. I also like to encourage interactive learning by actively engaging learners with the actual lesson plan. For high school learners I normally embark on the "I do, We do, You do learning style. This entails where I deliver a lesson (I do) afterwards we work through exam papers (We do), and then finally I instruct the students to go and find practical real-life examples of what they have learned (You do). For senior students I ask for volunteers to swap roles with me - in other words, they become the lecturer. I will afterwards emphasize and discuss the salient points of the lecture as well as further explaining if need be. A class test of the subject will then follow. The results thereof will determine whether he/she will receive an exit ticket from me.
