About Alex

Hello! I'm Alex and I am a native English tutor from the south-west of England. I’m friendly, patient, and hard-working; with a good sense of humour!

I specialize in teaching children from the ages of five to sixteen years old.

The majority of my eight-year teaching experience comes from working on ESL platforms. My expertise is in intensive curriculums, such as Oxford, Cambridge, and National Geographic.

I’m also a great choice if your goal is to pass your KET, PET, and IELTS exams. So, far, I’ve helped over two hundred children pass their exams with a >90% success rate!

You’ll notice that I have a neutral accent (mainstream Received Pronunciation) and students comment that I am very easy to understand.

I have a passion for accents and dialects. I love talking to people from other countries and sharing my knowledge about England in order to prepare for travel or future work prospects.

My qualifications include a degree in English Language & Literature and a TEFL certification.

I really enjoy teaching kids and teens of all levels and abilities.

Book a lesson with me and you will not be disappointed. We we grow your English language skills at your own pace. We will talk and see what fits your style of learning first.

I look forward to meeting you and seeing how I can improve your English ability!

As a virtual tutor, my approach is rooted in personalized and interactive learning. Here's an overview of my teaching method, lesson plan, and what sets me apart:

Teaching Method and Techniques:

1. Adaptive Learning: I tailor my teaching style to the individual needs and learning preferences of each student. This involves understanding their strengths, weaknesses, and preferred learning methods.
2. Interactive Sessions: I engage students in active discussions, problem-solving, and hands-on activities to ensure a deeper understanding of the subject matter.
3. Feedback Loop: Regular feedback is essential. I encourage students to ask questions, seek clarification, and provide feedback on their learning experience.
4. Exam-Focused Learning: Tailoring lessons to the specific requirements of Cambridge exams (KET, PET, FCE), I emphasize the key skills and knowledge needed for success.
5. Mock Exams and Practice Tests: Regularly incorporating mock exams and practice tests to familiarize students with the exam format, time constraints, and types of questions.

Typical Lesson Plan:

After learning about your goals, whether they are particular English skills (speaking, listening, writing, etc.) or wanting to pass your Cambridge exams, I will advise a suitable coursebook for us to follow to achieve them. We can then systematically work through the course covering all exercises in the syllabus.

What Sets Me Apart:

1. Adaptability: I can adjust my teaching style to cater to different learning preferences and levels of understanding.
2. Communication Skills: Clear and effective communication is a priority. I ensure that students feel comfortable asking questions and seeking clarification.
3. Child-Centric Approach: Tailoring lessons to the unique needs and interests of children and teens ensures a more effective and enjoyable learning experience.
4. Patience and Understanding: Recognizing the diverse learning styles and paces of young learners, I maintain patience and adaptability in my teaching approach.
5. Creating a Positive Learning Environment: Fostering a supportive and positive atmosphere encourages active participation and enthusiasm for learning.
6. Expertise in Cambridge Exams: In-depth knowledge of the Cambridge exam formats and grading criteria, ensuring students are well-prepared for success.
7. Personalized Feedback: Offering detailed, personalized feedback to address individual strengths and weaknesses, fostering continuous improvement.

Who are my lessons for?

My teaching is specifically designed for kids and teens, ranging from elementary to high school levels. Whether it's reinforcing foundational concepts or introducing more advanced topics, I aim to make learning a fun and rewarding experience for young minds.

Moreover, my tutoring is specifically geared towards students aiming to pass Cambridge English exams, including Key English Test (KET), Preliminary English Test (PET), and First Certificate in English (FCE). Whether it's building foundational skills or fine-tuning exam strategies, I focus on providing comprehensive preparation for successful exam outcomes.
