About Alexandria
Hi! I’m Alexandria Leon...
…but most people call me Alex! I graduated from Pace University with a degree in Childhood Education, and I’m currently working toward my Master’s in Literacy. I’ve built my teaching skills through student teaching and my time at a tutoring center, where I focused on using research-based strategies, creating a culturally responsive classroom, and staying flexible in fast-paced environments. I also have experience in social services, where I supported local families in connecting with resources they need.
As a teacher, I want my students to feel confident in themselves, recognize their own power, and understand that their ideas and dreams can truly make a difference!

I believe tutoring should help students feel more confident, not just help them finish their homework. I take the time to get to know each student, understand what they are struggling with, and find ways to make learning easier and more enjoyable for them.
My teaching approach:
I use a mix of explanations, examples, visuals, practice, and questions to help students understand new skills. I encourage students to explain their thinking so I can see what they understand and where they may need more support. I also adjust my approach depending on how each student learns best.
What a typical lesson looks like:
We usually start with a quick review of what the student already knows or what they are currently working on in school. Then, I introduce or review the skill, work through examples together, and give the student opportunities to practice independently. We finish by reviewing what we learned and identifying anything that needs more practice.
What sets me apart:
I have 8+ years of experience working with children and students in grades K–6. I have a degree in Childhood Education and am currently pursuing my master’s degree in Literacy. My experience has taught me that every student learns differently, so I focus on building a relationship with each student and creating lessons around their individual needs.
Who I work with:
I primarily work with students in grades 1–6 and can provide support in reading, writing, English Language Arts, foundational math, homework, reading comprehension, vocabulary, writing skills, and test preparation. My goal is to help students strengthen their skills while also becoming more confident and independent learners.
