About Theodora

I am a part-time professor at Temple University (Philadelphia, PA) and Lebanon Valley College (Annville, PA). I have been an instructor in the college classroom for about 10 years and have taught well over 100 different English (Literature and composition) and Sociology classes, both on campus as well as online (even long before Covid!). I was awarded the First Year Writing Instructor of the Year Award at Temple University (2019) and the Adjunct Professor of the Year Award at Lebanon Valley College (May 2022). These are the highest teaching awards available at my level at both institutions.

I started academic tutoring and coaching in 2017 because I believed I had a unique set of skills that would be valuable to families-- particularly those seeking help with college work or college preparation. Nearly 5 years and 50+ different clients later, I can say with confidence that this was true. My work in academia allows me to offer my clients an extensive knowledge of higher-education; I understand how the system works and how to both prepare for and succeed within it.

About the lesson

My name is Theodora Sakellarides (“Teddi”) and I am the founder and owner of Forward: Academic Coaching and Tutoring Services (FACTS), L.L.C.

Between tutoring, coaching, and my work in the formal college classroom, I have instructed thousands of students of all ages and needs. I never lose sight of the fact that each and every client is an individual with markedly unique needs and concerns. No one student is the same, and it is my responsibility to design a plan or curriculum that is most helpful to YOU.

I have watched my clients learn how to read, be accepted into college, win essay contests, write novellas, succeed in college, develop life-changing executive functioning skills, obtain GEDs, get into medical school, and secure their dream internships. Playing a small role in each and every one of their success stories has been one of the greatest honors of my professional life. It is what inspired me to establish FORWARD and grant my business a formal identity.

Perfect! My family and I highly recommend Theodora for her tutoring services. We initially hired Teddi a couple of years ago because our homeschool son wasn't confident he was ready for college or able to pass the GED. Rylin has now completed two years of college and received straight A's except for a single B in math, which Teddi doesn't teach. Rylin doesn't work with Teddi on a regular basis anymore, but he reaches out to her occasionally to get input and feedback. I think this speaks more to her good work than his good grades. It shows the trust and rapport she was able to build with him.

Being as satisfied with Teddi's work as we were, we decided to hire her to tutor our younger son too. Canyon was struggling with reading and writing on a much more fundamental level. He was a bigger challenge for Teddi than our older son because he was somewhat resistant to the idea. They had a rocky start, but Theodora was patient and persistent with Canyon until she was able to win him over. When he began to see how much Teddi was helping, he became a much better student and has come to appreciate and look forward to his time with her. He also generally seems like a much more confident young man now.

If you are considering hiring a tutor for your child, I don't think you can go wrong with Teddi. She's a fantastic teacher and an amazing person.
