My Teaching Method and Techniques

My teaching method centers on engagement and visual learning. I believe that writing should not feel like a chore or a set of rigid rules to memorize. Instead, I use a "concept-to-creation" approach. I use visual prompts, story mapping, and character building blocks to make the mechanics of English—like grammar, reading comprehension, and sentence structure—tangible and interesting. By connecting traditional reading and writing skills directly to the art of storytelling, students naturally learn how to express their ideas clearly and confidently.

A Typical Lesson Plan

Each session is structured to build confidence and deliver practical results:

• The Spark (First 10 Mins): A quick, fun reading or visual writing prompt to get the creative juices flowing and shake off any frustration.

• Core Skill Focus (20 Mins): We target a specific area of growth, such as dissecting a reading passage, mastering essay structure, or developing a narrative arc.

• Hands-on Application (25 Mins): The student actively applies the skill through interactive writing exercises or creative story construction while receiving real-time, encouraging feedback.

• Wrap-up & Goal Setting (5 Mins): We review what was accomplished and set a clear, bite-sized goal for the next session.

My name is Janaun, and what sets me apart is my unique background as an artist, filmmaker, and storyboard designer. Because I work extensively with visual storytelling, scriptwriting, and creative pipelines, I don't look at English as just text on a page. I help students see the "movie" in their minds and translate it into powerful written words. This interdisciplinary approach makes my lessons highly engaging for students who might struggle with traditional, lecture-style tutoring.
