About Nicole
I have a Masters Degree in teaching and experience teaching math in both the General Education and the Special Education settings.
I pioneered a class at my public school in San Diego in which I provide extra supports for students who need more math help than what is offered in the regular math class. I am familiar with the lack of direct instruction that is offered in the Integrated Math curriculum and know that many students need this explicit instruction offered elsewhere.
I also ran a program in my district for students who were on the autism spectrum. I am experienced working with students of all needs and backgrounds.
I have taught the Integrated Math curriculum (1, 2, and 3) as well as provided tutoring support for Statistics, Trigonometry, and Calculus (along with pre-calc). I myself scored a 5 on the AP Calculus test when I was in high school and have since passed all the math tests for the CA math credential.

The CA education system is moving away from direct, explicit instruction and moving towards a "self-discovery" approach. With my Masters Degree in Teaching and through my experience in the public school system, I have been able to study and evaluate both approaches to teaching math.
Many students thrive in with the state's new approach but many students do not. These students are often left behind, wondering what is going on.
My approach to tutoring is to work with you to learn which way your school is teaching (don't worry - I can ask you a few questions and figure it out quickly!). I then provide an alternative, often more direct and explicit, approach to the material. I will learn the way that you learn best and teach to your strengths so you will leave feeling more confident and able!
