A bit about me
Hi, my name is Yicheng(Eliza) Wang. I was born and raised in Shanghai----the financial capital of China. I have been studying in Australia since Year 9. I come from a diverse educational background going through both private and public education system domestically and internationally. I previously worked at a Chinese after-school tutoring centre during school holidays and I taught primary school children maths and English. I am a very conscientious and empathetic student tutor. Currently I study radiography at a prestigious university and have been consistently achieving D and HD grades. I am passionate about lifelong learning and transparent knowledge sharing. As a medical imaging student, I hold evidence of criminal record police check, Working with Children Check, First Aid Certificate, and immunisation compliance. My personal experience of pursuing a second language to an advanced level allowed me to develop my unique methods that fast-track the language acquisition process. In my lessons, I'll teach you important skills for self-directed learning as well as how to excavate free reliable study resources available on the internet, which can potentially save you lots of money further down the line.

Levels on offer: introductory, intermediate
Suitable for: children, teenagers, adults with little to no Mandarin background
Delivery mode: one-to-one online via Zoom
Key focus: speaking, reading, listening practice
Variable durations: 30, 45, 60, 90 or 120 minutes
Price: $25 per hour (8% off discount applied to lessons booked together totalling at least 5 hours)
Timetable: 6-9pm from Wednesday to Friday, 8am-9pm on Saturday
Structure of a standard 1-hour lesson
- 5 min: Revision
- 20 min: New vocabulary (5-10 words, order of strokes, pronunciation and sentence examples)
- 30 min: Reading a variety of texts ranging from narrative/non-fiction articles to poems to song lyrics, all carefully selected from the broader contexts such as culture, science and technology, environment, history, business, health etc.
- 5 min: Q&A, and optional homework assignment
(Speaking and writing components would be embedded within the reading and vocabulary sessions; lesson structure is not fixed and can be readily adjusted to best suit your interests and goals)
Learning outcomes
1) Exposure to and comprehension of a variety of texts in Mandarin
2) Accent reduction in pronunciation leading to confident speaking
3) Develop an interest in Chinese languages, culture and history
4) Be able to understand and engage in basic Mandarin conversations
