About Harry

Director and theatre-maker based in the South West. I graduated from Bristol Old Vic’s Made in Bristol scheme in 2020 and then went on to study an MA in Directing at LAMDA. I have been working as a freelance director and theatre-maker for over six years; however, my teaching career has spanned over ten years.

I originally wanted to train as an actor but I started to lean more into writing and directing for the stage and co-founded a theatre company. As a freelance director I have worked with a range of organisations on various projects across London and the South West of England. Alongside directing I have been teaching and directing at esteemed drama schools and universities e.g. LAMDA, Bath Spa University, Bristol School of Acting and UWE. As well as teaching privately, including LAMDA exams, self-tapes, audition coaching etc.

As a director, I am drawn to new work and modern interpretations of classic texts with a particular focus on themes exploring mental health, gender and belonging. Recently, I directed Macbeth with the Bristol Old Vic Theatre's Y66 group and a devised performance at the Tobacco Factory Theatre called WWG: Gurtmania.

My practice often includes writing for stage and dramaturgy, particularly when working with young people. Since 2021, I have been working as a script reader for the Papatango New Writing Prize and between 2023-24 I was a member of the Pentabus Young Writers Local Group.

About the lesson

I understand and respect that we all work in different ways and I always aim to adapt my practice and my sessions to specific needs. I think it's fundamental for the sessions to be collaborative, practical and engaging. There is no 'right' way to approach a performance; however, I can offer techniques that you can apply to help you confidently develop your own creative process and professional practice.
