About Lordes
My name is Lordes Zapata, but I usually go by Lulu! I am a student at Iowa State University, majoring in Early Childhood Education, and currently work as an Assistant Teacher. Growing up, from elementary through high school, I struggled a lot with dyslexia—reading and writing were major challenges for me, and I attended specialized classes for extra help. It was a tough journey, but over time I was able to excel in English and reading! In high school, I took both regular and honors English and History, as well as Honors Yearbook. Now, with plenty of writing and reading experience, I’m excited to share what I’ve learned from my struggles so that every student has the chance to succeed!

My Tutoring Approach: My teaching method focuses on simplifying difficult terms and contexts, so students can fully understand the material. I use repetition, visuals, and plenty of practice to help information stick and build confidence over time. What Sets Me Apart: As someone who has overcome learning challenges with dyslexia and ADHD, I understand that everyone learns differently. This helps me connect with students on a personal level and adapt my methods to fit their unique learning styles. Typical Lesson Plan: Warm-up & Check-In (5 min): Review of previous material and goal setting for the session. Core Lesson (20–30 min): Introduce new concepts using examples and guided practice. Interactive Practice (15 min): Student-led writing exercises. Wrap-Up (5–10 min): Quick review, feedback, and next steps for continued growth. Who My Lessons Are For: I offer tutoring for elementary, middle, and high school students.
