About Colin
In my life, I have had many different jobs and careers. I have been a machinist in an engineering workshop, a furnaceman in a blast furnace, a sale assistance, a soldier, a security officer, Technical Office in a pathology laboratory, musculoskeletal therapist and healer. The reason for this is I’m a very quick learner, I get bored easily and I love new challenges. During these times I have taught many people in a wide range of topics both theoretical and practical.
I am fortunate to live in an area with many farms which employ hundreds of overseas workers and some have rented a room at my property. I have taught many of them and their friends English concentrating on common Aussie English, how to communicate and be understood by the locals.

I have found over the years people learn more efficiently if whatever been taught directly relates to their interest or employment or they can use what they just learnt immediately outside the classroom. Therefore, I cater my lesson toward a more real-life situation. This depends on what my student need out of the lesson. For example, if the students are looking to communicate with the local population better I would look at covering correct English as a core then move to cover slang, jargon sarcasm etc to fit in with the community easier. If the student is interested in academic studies then the correct English would be covered more intensity but relating directly to their subject of study.
