I love using direct instruction for younger learners. This method is engaging and fun for students, it really helps them with memorization so that they can apply concepts in the future. For upper elementary students I begin to ask open-ended questions to encourage critical thinking and deeper understanding rather than rote memorization. These questions also help determine if there are any gaps that we need to review before moving on to more advanced curriculum.
