About Joana
I’m an experienced educator, former Pastoral Leader and Psychology graduate with extensive experience supporting teenagers and young adults both academically and personally. My work has always gone beyond the classroom. I support young people with confidence, motivation, organisation, communication, school engagement, decision-making and planning their next steps. Sometimes a young person doesn’t need another teacher telling them what to do. They need someone who listens, understands what may be getting in the way and helps them turn their goals into realistic actions. My approach is warm, honest and practical. I build positive relationships quickly while encouraging young people to take ownership of their progress. My background also includes teaching Social Sciences and Health & Social Care, supporting diverse educational needs and working closely with young people and families to help them thrive.

Every mentoring session is tailored to the individual. We’ll identify what’s going well, what may be getting in the way and what they genuinely want to change. Sessions can focus on confidence, motivation, organisation, school or college engagement, communication, goal-setting, accountability and planning for future education, employment or other next steps. This isn’t another hour of school. My sessions are conversational, practical and supportive, giving young people space to think openly while helping them turn challenges into clear, manageable actions. The aim is to build confidence and independence, not create dependency. Young people leave each session with greater clarity, practical strategies and achievable next steps. Parents are also welcome to share any particular concerns or goals beforehand so that sessions can be tailored from the start.
