About Wally
To be successful as a tutor or teacher, it is necessary to assess students to learn their strengths. and the areas where they need assistance. I have been trained in assessing students and have extensive experience in both assessing and evaluating the assessments. Oral and written assessments enable me to prepare the lessons needed to achieve the greatest results in the shortest time.

A teacher, tutor, or for that matter, any performer of a service is only as good as their training and experience has prepared them to be. On the education side of the situation, I received a Bachelor of Arts, English Language Arts (ELA) and History, from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1973. After twenty years of teaching ELA, I decided that I wanted to expand my experience and teach teachers. I received a Master of Education Degree from the University of Texas, Brownsville in preparation to apply for doctoral programs in education. In August of 2012 I earned a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi, Texas.
My extensive education prepared me well to teach high school English in San Antonio, Earth science in middle schools on the Texas/Mexico border, and all elementary school subjects at Colegio Americano de Veracruz. As a university professor, I taught education courses at New Mexico Highlands University, and Eastern New Mexico University. In each of these situations, I prepared and presented lessons to classes of students, and when some students needed a little help, I tutored.
I have retired from classroom teaching, but I still want to teach. I am hoping to be able to tutor small groups and individuals in the near future
Wally D. Thompson, Ph.D.
