About Ruby
I am a friendly, professional and experienced English tutor living in East Sussex. As well as tutoring, I teach GCSE English in a college part-time, so I'm fully up-to-date with current exam board requirements. I have a passion for teaching and relish helping students to reach their potential. I have received excellent feedback from past students. I received a university-wide award for my postgraduate teaching in the School of English and Drama between 2018-19 at Queen Mary University of London.

I have eight years' experience tutoring English at a variety of levels and in a number of different settings: tutoring privately, working as a Teaching Associate in the University of London, and teaching GCSE English in a college setting. As a result of this extensive experience, I am able to help those students who are aiming to achieve the highest level, as well as those who are struggling and need a bit of extra support and encouragement. Many students that I have worked with have improved their grades considerably.
I take a student-centred approach in order to get the best out of individuals and help them to achieve their academic goals. I am patient and calm so that the student feels empowered to ask questions and not fear getting things wrong. After conducting an initial assessment of the student's current working level, I will plan sessions to focus on the areas that they need most work on. Depending on the level, this may be one or several of the following: structure, reading strategies, exam timings and SPAG (spelling, punctuation and grammar). I provide targeted, constructive feedback so that the students (and parents / guardians) are able to see a clear way to improve the student's writing. The sessions are informative but are always enjoyable and conducted in a positive manner.
