About Georgia
I'm a First-Class honours graduate from St Andrews, currently ranked top in the UK for my degree subject, English. In addition, I'm pursuing an MA in Creative Writing at Royal Holloway, University of London, with my specialism being poetry. I have significant experience working with children, from my time au pairing for a French family in Paris to my work as a Teaching Assistant within a special needs school. More recently, I have completed a year on a fixed-term contract as a Graduate Teacher of English in a Harrow Foundation school. In this capacity, I also put my experience within the drama and theatre world to good use, a sphere in which I am also a confident educator. I believe in a holistic approach to tutoring that prioritises a student-led approach. I want to know what the student is looking to learn and the specific challenges within their understanding they themselves can identify. A great deal of becoming a better learner is understanding one's own cognitive obstacles and barriers to information retention. I love my subject and I particularly love the opportunity to inculcate a shared passion for literature in my students. I do this by routinely underscoring the relevance of topics such as a poetry - a 'dusty old art' to some - within our culture. I taught a memorable lesson on the work of Amanda Gorman for instance, the young poet whose piece 'The Hill We Climb' was first performed at President Joe Biden's inauguration. I am happy to tutor online and in-person and have availability during the daytime, evenings, and weekends. I usually recommend we arrange an hour to see if we work well together.
