About Stephen
I have over four years teaching experience, in both classrooms and labs, and with large groups, small groups, and individual sessions. My education includes a B.S. with a double major in physics and applied mathematics from the University of Rochester and three years of graduate-level coursework at University of California, Irvine.
In addition to my education, I have four years' experience as a teacher's assistant and two years' experience as a private tutor of physics at the college level. In the reviews submitted of me as a teacher's assistant, I have received near-universal praise, with my listed strengths being my ability to connect with students, elucidate hard-to-understand topics, and capitalize on what interested students about the topics.
Further experience includes a year working at the Laboratory for Laser Energetics and three years participating in graduate-level research in both theoretical and experimental high energy particle physics. This experience has given me an understanding of where physics and math can take you in the world after school, and I am happy to share knowledge of my experience with anyone that has dreams of pursuing a scientific career.

I am a private educator specializing in physics and math. I work with all types of students, from elementary to college level. It is a treat to work with a student that comes into our lessons with a passion for the subject already, but I know that the passion will come regardless by the end of our time working together!
Students will likely already have lecture-type content available, either from the classroom or from one of the incredibly valuable resources online. For the time we spend together, it makes more sense for me to focus on problem-solving skills, discussions of core concepts, and specific areas of difficulty or interest. I am also happy to provide readings, videos, and other challenges for the student to take on outside of our time together (if the student wishes).
