About Summia
Hello! My name is Summia, and I'm a tutor based in Allentown, Pennsylvania, with a strong background in math, technology, and education.
I hold a Master of Science in Computer Science from Kutztown University, an MBA in Data Analytics from DeSales University, and a Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering from the University of Portsmouth in the UK. Math has been at the center of my studies and my career, from building software to analyzing data. That gives me a practical understanding of how math is used in the real world.
Alongside my technical work, I love teaching. I've worked as a Lead STEM Instructor, teaching students at several locations across Pennsylvania. I currently give time management and study skills presentations in local schools, including the Allentown School District. I also tutor regularly at my community library, where I've helped students of all ages build their skills and confidence.
As a tutor, I'm patient, encouraging, and well organized. I know that math can feel stressful, so I create a calm, supportive space where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. Seeing a student finally understand a concept they struggled with is the most rewarding part of what I do.

My goal is to help every student understand why math works, not just memorize steps. I start by finding out where you are: what feels easy, what feels confusing, and what you need, whether that's homework help, test prep, or catching up. From there, I break problems into clear, manageable steps and use real-life examples so ideas like fractions, equations, and graphs make sense.
A typical lesson:
A quick check-in on schoolwork, upcoming tests, or anything that's been difficult
A short review of the key concept, explained in a simple, visual way
Guided practice, where we solve problems together and I talk through my thinking
Independent practice, where you try problems on your own while I give feedback
A recap of what we learned, plus a few practice problems if you'd like extra work
What sets me apart: I have a master's degree in Computer Science and a background in software engineering and data analytics, so I use math every day in real work. I've also taught as a STEM instructor and tutored students at my local library, so I know how to explain things patiently and adjust to different learning styles. I believe every student can do well in math with the right support and encouragement.
Who the lessons are for: middle school and high school students working on pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, and statistics, as well as adults returning to math or preparing for exams. Lessons are available in person or online.
