About Deborah
I have been inside the business of theatre for about 30 years as a producer, director, actor, stage manager, and teacher. I have taught students both in classroom settings as well as private instruction. Subjects taught: acting, improv, voice and diction, as well as classical and modern playwrights. My experience as an actor comes from acting in over 50 plays and musicals. As a director and producer, I have watched thousands of auditions which gives me the unique perspective from both sides of the casting table. Not sure when I started teaching theater (approximately 30+ years ago) but I love working with students of any age. Nothing gives me more pleasure than encouraging and challenging students to be their best.
I have a MFA degree in Acting and have my training by acting in plays and musicals for almost 30 years.

Meet the student and ask them about their goals. What do they see as their strengths and weaknesses? Find out about their experiences - both on the stage and behind the stage. How serious are they and are they willing to put in the work and can they handle critiques because acting is all about learning and improving.
I've worked with people of all ages and all levels of experience.
Look for a teacher with practical experience in the field as well as teaching experience. Find a teacher who can encourage as well as challenge you. And,depending on your personality, find someone with a good sense of humor! If you're not having fun while you work hard ... 😁
A recent event was having my sister come for a visit. It had been 6 years since I had seen her and was delighted to show her my new home and introduce her to my friends! Because of theater I have moved around a lot but this is the first time I've put down roots.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
How much time do they have to focus on their craft? Hard hard are they willing to work? Are they willing to keep on despite all obstacles - whether that be from outside influence or internal doubts?
