About Jon
Hello, my name is Jon - I am a licensed architect, builder, and published design-education researcher. With many years' experience teaching accredited courses in architecture - including design, theory, structures, and digital design & fabrication - the passion I've most strongly developed is to help students find meaning in their own way of understanding and achieving studies in architectural design.
Architecture school is challenging, but it does not have to be a mystery. Please feel free to contact me, and let's discuss how I may help you.
I enjoy helping people to discover new ways of seeing themselves and the world.
Three things connect me to teaching:
1. My father was a teacher, and my mentor.
2. My lifelong passion for building has positioned me in many cases to teach hands-on building skills
3. My start with collegiate-level teaching in architecture began as a volunteer, filling in for another instructor at the last minute. That was ten years ago - my dedication to this service has only increased over the years.

For me, a student's own experience and conception of social life begins as they craft their identity as scholars. Nothing in their worlds is unimportant or should be discarded, everything should remain open to investigation. A student's ongoing dialectical engagement with scholarship is a conversation that should be facilitated and protected by those in mentorship positions. In so doing, the teachers and institutions will themselves change; our students are our future leaders, to be engaged with prescient, discerning care.
I typically work with undergraduate students in the classroom, and have served in mentor roles for new gratuates entering the professional field, throughout my career.

Every instructor I had had different approach in teaching. The "language of design" was a very interesting one that I continue to use today.
Jon is very inspiring and creative. As a teacher he knows how to get the best out of students. He was always prepared for the subject and the lectures were always effective.
