About James
Every player needs a mentor—not just a coach, but someone who understands what it takes to succeed at the highest levels and who cares enough to guide them every step of the way. True mentorship goes beyond drills and games. It’s about instilling Confidence, Accountability, Respect, and Education—the core of everything we do: C>A>R>E.
Less than 1% of the world’s population—and even fewer trainers today—have the level of professional playing experience I bring to the table. But experience alone isn’t enough. What matters is how that experience is used to uplift, challenge, and shape young athletes into something more than just players.
The right mentor adapts to the needs of the individual while holding them to a standard that pushes them to grow. This structure, consistency, and truth-telling—no matter how uncomfortable—accelerates development, builds real confidence, and prepares kids not just for games, but for life.
When mentorship is done right, the results speak for themselves. A new breed of player begins to emerge—more focused, more disciplined, and more prepared.
This is what Singleton Basketball stands for. And it’s already happening.
Over the course of my career, I've always been a student of the game. Foreseeing the court's actions unfold before they are fully developed has always been a unique skill I've had from day one. As my basketball career progressed, I found myself more and more interested in coaches and their players' mindset. I began studying each team I played against. It wasn't long before my teammates would come to me and the coaches to ask my opinion on the game plan before and during the match.
I've played 14 years professionally, 6 years in the NBA, and 8 years overseas. With the addition of high school professional-level coaching to my resume. I am able to not only offer the skills I have acquired from playing at every level possible of basketball but also the knowledge of what the coaching side expects from each player.
During the off-season, I train and improve the skill set of both amateurs and professional players as well as my own personal growth. I also lead several skills camps during the summer at PSA in Plano. Coaching and educating players is my passion.......

My approach with each player is different since no two players are the same. The first few minutes of the 1st session will always start with a few basic drills to observe and accurately evaluate their skillset. This allows me to customize the rest of that session and future sessions to get the most improvement out of every minute spent working with this player. With an open mind, Each player/parent is GUARANTEED to see improvement within the first 10mins of the session.
I've worked with a wide variety of athletes. I've worked with and mentored beginners to professionals. Since I myself have played at every level (middle school and everything in between all the way to the highest level - NBA), adding my experience as a Nba coach allows me to not only know the game from experience but also help players understand what coaches want.... therefore I know I can relate to every player, no matter their starting point.
My advice would be to research that trainer. Asking if you can visit the trainer during one of his/her sessions and watch them workout another player. Afterward, if you and your parent like what you've seen, then try one session and see if the trainer is more than just a great storyteller or showman. Word of mouth is one thing; action is another. Being a great trainer/coach is the ability to make the player in front of you better, not just physical talent but also mentally ingraining and increasing self-confidence. James Singleton
I'm fond of the experience I've had this basketball season (20-21) with Marcus High School. Seeing the improvement and mental growth these young men have gained has been the greatest reward I can ask for. Over the course of my career, a most recent event was when one of my players from a previous coaching season (an NBA vet of 10 years) was really struggling with finishing when up against guys bigger and or strong than him. We worked every day for a week, and each workout, he would be amazed at the things I taught him. He would say that no one in all his career had broken down things for him the way I did and had him doing and trying new things... then to see in the following game he was able to apply what he learned and was not only successful but scored. The look on his face and his pure appreciation for me working with him reminded me of why I love developing players.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Honestly, there is no such thing as an unrealistic or crazy question. A good teacher/trainer/coach will be able to address any question asked TRUTHFULLY.

Perfect! I am so thankful that we found Singleton basketball for my son. To say that he has grown as a player is an absolute understatement. James and his team of coaches have the technical knowledge and the basketball IQ that have allowed my sons skills to grow by leaps and bounds. They have worked with him whenever he has struggled to pick up a skill or a concept and they have taught him that with focus and dedication he can really achieve what he wants. James and his team don’t just care about my son’s basketball skills but care about him as a young man and have become more than a coach but also a role model and a mentor. My sons’ self-esteem and confidence have grown just as much as his basketball prowess maybe even more because they treat him like one of their own family members. They are so helpful when I have any questions or concerns and really go above and beyond to communicate with parents and be accessible to everyone. I have looked at and even tried other programs in the area, but Singleton Basketball really has the basketball pedigree that is unmatched anywhere in the DFW area. I’m so excited to watch my son grow and achieve his goals with James and his team.
Perfect! My son has been taking lessons from Coach Singleton for a year now & he is a totally different player. Coach Singleton is able to teach skills in a couple of sessions that my son had previously been working on all season. James is extremely passionate & has a unique approach to each kid.
He is teaching our kids much more than being a great basketball player-he is teaching them work ethic & to set their goals high.
Coach Singleton is the ONE coach that has had the greatest impact on my child & changed his path, I will forever be grateful.Perfect! Coach Singleton’s training has been the absolute BEST thing we could have asked for for our 16 year old son! We started with him about 6 months ago when my son was trying to make his High School Basketball team and within just a few sessions, his improvement in his skills were immediately visible. This enabled him to tryout confidently, making the team.
Singleton is not only gifted in coaching and challenging players, he is a tremendous role model and mentor. He has helped my son’s mental game in a big way along with countless others and continues to do so!
His effort and energy is so positive and uplifting but also challenging and results driven!!
We will be with Singleton, as long as he is training and coaching and would recommend him to anyone and everyone who wants to improve their skills and grow as a person!!Perfect! Coach Singleton has been wonderful for our three children. We are extremely happy with him and recommend him highly.
Perfect! We have been working with James for several years. James is focused on understanding where you are, understanding where you want to be and working with you to get there. I highly recommend!
Perfect! James is super patient and very knowledgeable. He has helped my son gain confidence in his skills and helped him set goals to be a great player. He has been extremely flexible and reliable. We cannot be more thrilled to have James as our son’s coach!

Coach Singleton is a fantastic coach. He challenges players and holds them accountable to a very high standard all while making it enjoyable. He teaches the details that many other coaches rush through. Our son has improved greatly with his footwork, shooting and and ball handling.
Coach Singleton's attention to detail on each player's game is awesome. He pinpoints strengths and weaknesses and then addresses them individually. I love the attention to footwork and detail. He has an incredible balance with challenging his players and encouraging them.
My son, Davis, has been working with Coach Singleton for 3 years and has Improved like no other. He’s worked with a lot of trainers but Coach Singleton stuck because he is a great trainer, mentor, and person. It wasn’t only about basketball when working with my son. He takes his time out of his day to help Davis, not only with basketball but with school and life in general. I would recommend Coach Singleton to anyone looking for someone who pushes their kids to their greatest potential but in a healthy, positive, and caring way. He has only wanted what is the best for Davis.
Discipline with challenging drills that expanded my sons skill level. In the process increasing his confidence.
My 3 kids (now 13, 10 and 8) have worked with Coach James for over 2 years. All 3 have very different strengths/weaknesses/personalities. Coach James has a way of building each kid up, getting the maximum work out of them while keeping them wanting to come back. All of my kids games have improved drastically, thanks to Coach James!
My 7th grade son has learnt and improved a lot after joining Singleton Basketball. They have great coaching staffs, and focus on details.
Coach Singleton is the real deal. He takes time to learn about each kid and develops a plan for them to be successful on and off the court. He is very good at recognizing potential and finding areas for improvement. He motivates, encourages, builds confidence, enhances strengths and improves weaknesses. He loves what he does and it shows. Highly recommend!
Excellent instruction. Geared to your player. Always intense but intentional. Highly recommend.
My son really likes working with James and his team. We have seen a huge improvement in his performance and his confidence. I was concerned about group lessons and how much attention he would get, but James is all seeing in a group lesson. He and his team are watching the kids, giving pointers, correcting mistakes, explaining moves to each kid, all while the group keeps moving. Highly recommend.
I played.basketball, coached a little and now have two teenagers playing. I have never seen a better program for young kids. You will see immediate results in your child and their confidence toward the game.
Coach Singleton is patient and ensures that the players are learning the correct way to play. He builds confidence and becomes a mentor to every single player he coaches and trains.
Singleton Basketball is genuine training that wants to help you get better, not just make money. All of the coaches truly care for the athletes and encourage and motivate us to be our best.
James goes above and beyond to address both the physical and mental development of his clients. He does so in an effective manner, without the unnecessary aggression and foul language we’ve experienced from other trainers. He is 1000% committed to what he does, and it shows in his clients.
John is so good with the kids. He’s funny, compassionate and truly wants to help them be better ballers. Very pleased with lessons & camps!
Coach was aLeah’s excited to see the team, engaged in each individual and pushed them to keep going. Taught great skill moves.
Develops relationships, strong communication, positive reenforcement, knowledge of game.
He sees the potential and works for the players to get to that level. His work ethics and the individual attention he gives to the players. My son loves James and tells all his friends about him.
Coach Singleton is by far both of my boys favorite Coach! They have gone to many of his camps & are now taking lessons. I love his calm demeanor and great patience, not always seen at higher levels of play. He is highly respected by the kids & they are eager to please him. My boys have improved their game so much this year. I feel Coach Singleton is teaching our children much more than just basketball.
Coach Singleton has helped me gain more confidence with the ball and get better at basketball skills.
My son’s overall confidence and skill level improved greatly after training with Singleton Basketball. James has a strategic approach that is unique to each player’s needs. He uses drills that he personally found to be successful and useful when he played basketball. He really has a gift for working with young athletes to bring out their best. His trainings are rigorous with a well thought out instructional design that gets results. His training is worth every penny.
Coach Singleton gets to know his students individually...knowing where their strengths and weaknesses are and how they handle mistakes and achievements. He is calm in his delivery but also structured, and while he properly corrects mistakes, he praises a job well done. My son knows each lesson will be hard work, but is always happy to go and pleased with the progress!
My son has been taking sessions with Coach Singleton for several months. He has made a huge difference in his overall game.
He explains and demonstrates the techniques methodically and encourages until the student gets it right. It’s inspiring to watch his quick movements and ball handling strategies broken down so meticulously. He’s able to teach each technique in a slow motion making it easy for anyone to observe and learn. Speaking from my son’s perspective, Coach Singleton covers everything from shooting a basketball to having right footwork. He always pushes the envelope and encourages you every way to try your best, and appreciates you for that.
He goes through intense, fast-paced workouts, that will help you grow your endurance level as well.
Thank you, Coach!James Singleton’s passion & knowledge of basketball is the no brainer for people to want to train with him, however his personal investment into the kids he works with, in my humble opinion, is what makes him invaluable. James Singleton is gold in my book!
My two sons have grown tremendously since training with Coach Singleton. Not just the physical aspect of basketball, but the mental aspect as well. He instill confidence in them. Coach is very supportive and pushed them to do things they didn't think they could do.
Coach Singleton also takes the time to talk to us and provide feedback on my kids. He loves doing what he is doing, and committed to helping the kids improves in all aspect of basketball.Coach Singleton is top notch! Although the work is hard, my son looks forward to seeing him each week and putting in the work because he knows that if he applies what coach is teaching him, he will continue to improve in his game. As a parent I appreciate that he coaches/teaches with no nonsense attitude yet still with care and compassion for each athlete. We’ve recommended Coach Singleton to several friends and will continue to do so!
James’s vested interest in the mechanics
My son attended your private session and loved it. He came home extremely exhausted, but he couldn’t stop talking about all the wonderful drills and skills that he learned from you. I want to say a heartfelt thank you to you for having a huge motivational impact on his training.
My wife and I enjoyed the whole approach with all the coaches. They clearly spoke and make sure the kids understood what was expected. If something was done wrong, they corrected it and showed why it was done wrong and how to do it correctly.
He really pushes the kids and challenges them while building their confidence. He's a great communicator and always makes time to talk about any of my concerns and questions.
My daughter who is 10 has really enjoyed working with James. Her confidence and ball handling has improved tremendously since day 1 of training. She loves the energy that he brings and pushes her to be her best!
His ability to teach is top notch! Great understanding of the game and experience. Both my son and daughter train with Singleton and have had great results!!
His communication and attention to detail for each individual.
Coach Singleton and the other coaches with Singleton Basketball are fantastic! They create a challenging environment and experience for kids of all ages. My son’s skills and confidence have increased dramatically in less than 2 months and I attribute that all them! I highly recommend Singleton Basketball for anyone looking for a challenging, encouraging, skill-focused program. You won’t be disappointed.
Coach James is amazing! My 3 children have been working with him for 1.5 yrs. They have made major improvements in their game in that time. He pushes them to their limits without yelling and they want to keep coming back.
James teaches dribbling skills and drills that I haven’t seen before. The attention to detail in footwork and dribbling is impressive which gives his kids the advantage. Definitely brings the best out of his players.
James's work with my child is tailored around his needs instead of a predetermined workout.
James pays closer attention to the details within the drills. Many coach/trainers work a drill "until you get it right", Coach Singleton works a drill until "you get it right repetitively".
At the same time that he is training my child's skills he is also training his mind. Kids are held accountable for focus, discipline and attitude.
James also keeps tabs on how your child is doing with his team to ensure that what he is teaching is transferring to the court. I have received text from coach Singleton about my son's play in the middle of a tournament. Coach Singleton will put in as much as your athlete does.Coach Singleton has been training my son for over a year. I wish I could post video from when he first started to now, he has improved so much. Coach Singleton focuses on skills and conditioning. He coaches in a way that builds his athletes up, never tear them down helping his athletes not only gain better basketball skills, but also become more confident in incorporating those skills in their game.
James and his staff are top notch!! They are professional and courteous.
What I enjoy as a father the most is how he can relate the game to kids of all ages. They can follow easy to complex drills, and somehow always grasp the concepts being taught.
I have not only seen tremendous improvement in my young sons basketball game. But also his confidence. He truly enjoys and values his time with James and his staff. I would highly recommend utilizing him for a basketball player of any skill set.The drills Coach Singleton ran really helped my son with technique, skills, conditioning and confidence.
My son Jack has learned so many skills in a short time. He thoroughly enjoys the small group sessions with James. His confidence has improved along with his basketball skills. I highly recommend small group sessions with James.
Singleton is an outstanding coach.

If looking for your child to get to the next level he’s your man.
Very detailed. Really knowledgeable when it comes to shooting form and off the dribble shooting. Calm demeanor when training. Able to keep the player engaged during the whole session. Looking forward to working with James in the future.
I like how Coach Singleton pushes me as hard as possible. I’m thankful he knows I want to get better and I want it bad enough that he takes time to invest in my basketball journey and he gives it his all. I also like how he challenges me mentally and not just physically. He is very good when it comes to breaking down moves and he explains the process and when to use everything and at what time very well. I appreciate all he has done with me even though it’s just the start. I’m happy I found someone who can push me as hard as I need to in order to be the best basketball player I can be and live up to my full potential.
The second he passed my daughter the his attention to detail was unbelievable. Within the first few minutes of our session I noticed improvements with her ball handling, footwork and her jump shot. James is amazing.
Great individual trainer as well as group trainer!! Identified areas needing improvement quickly along with motivational factors and catered his training style to my son. Trained my son very specialized vs training every kid the same. Highly recommend Coach James for training!
Highly Recommend! Both of my kids (daughter and son) have both attended multiple James Singleton camps and have also done regular private lessons with James over the last few years. James takes a personnel interest in developing both of my kids and I’ve seen him do the same first hand with multiple others.
Amazing player and coach, loved the one on one he spent with my son and Mr Singleton being a father, he knew exactly how to get my son to open up and broke that shell he normally has abound him. Def will continue his services to better my sons talents on the court
