About Sean
My lessons are unique due to my ability to adapt my teaching to the needs of the student. I have worked with students from beginners to advanced players, and can change teaching styles in order to best serve the student.
I enjoy seeing students progress week to week and month to month. I was lucky enough to have had fantastic teachers in my life, and I believe strongly in passing along what I have learned.
I started teaching when I was a senior in high school, teaching saxophone to an eighth grade student. Since then I have enjoyed working with students regardless of skill level.
I have a Bachelors and Masters degree in Bassoon Performance from the New England Conservatory. Since then I have taught students of all skill levels in the Northern Virginia area, Miami, Medellin, Dominican Republic and Japan. As a performer, I am Co-Principal Bassoonist of the United States Coast Guard Band and have also performed with the Pittsburgh Symphony, Boston Symphony, Richmond Symphony, Kennedy Center Opera, Nashville Symphony and Jacksonville Symphony.

The first lesson will go over the students background and goals for the lessons. After that, each lesson will be a progression towards that goal. I'll give advice on repetoire, etudes and excersises that can help each student work towards their goal.
I have worked with beginners, middle school students, high school students, college students and young professionals.
It's important to have a teacher who is active in the field in which you are studying. If the teacher is actively working and focusing on the field of study, then they are better equipped to give advice that will aid the student.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should have a clear view of what it is that they want to get out of their lessons. It's easier for a teacher to help a student improve if they goals in mind. Do you want to be a professional musician or are you studying just for fun?

Details
After an itial free trial lesson, the price for each lesson will depend on the amount of time. $30 for 30 minutes, $45 for 45 minutes, and $60 for an hour.
