About Delaney
I am a 4th year student at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts well on my way to getting my Bachelors of Science in Biology. I LOVE teaching and I plan to be a high school Biology teacher after I graduate. I have plenty of experience teaching at all levels. In the Fall of 2019, I worked full-time at an elementary and middle school as a teacher's assistant. I often substitued classes. In addition, in high school, I volunteered for a program called Breakthrough which aims to provide biweekly tutoring and mentorship to underserved middle and high school kids who are the first in their families to go to college.
I love working with kids and helping to not only reach their academic goals, but also provide mentorship. I am able to relate to people of all ages. I believe that one of the fundamental flaws of the education system is that too often teachers forget what it's like to be a kid. Kid problems may seem small to us, but that doesn't mean that they are to the kid(s). I aim to provide a safe space and growth mindset environment tailored to each kid.
I got started in high school working at a program called Breakthrough which is a biweekly after-school tutoring and mentorship program. I worked with primarily middle school students and some high school students who are the first in their families to go to college.
I did a 4-month stint at Lawrence School in Brookline, Massachusetts as part of a university program. I worked full time as a teacher's assistant and an office aid. I often substitued and observed classes, greatly improving my teaching and interpersonal skills.

My typical process is to get to know the student first to not only form a good relationship with them but to also guage what is the best learning style for the student. Some students need more breaks than others or some need movement incorporated into learning. Regardless, the student, parent(s), and I will work to find the best method for improving subject proficiency and enjoyment.

My best advice for all students of all levels is that it is very tempting to pull an all-nighter studying for a test the next day. I always say that if you can't get the concept down by midnight, to put it aside, and get a good night's rest (preferably at least 8 hours). A good amount of sleep the night before a test is much better for your brain as your brain processes the day's events while you are asleep. You may find that you are better able to grasp the information you had trouble with if you have gotten rest.
A recent event that I am fond of was the surprise release of Taylor Swift's Folklore album. It's 3 months later and I'm still listening to it.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Some essential questions are:
1. How much time am I able to devote to this subject a week factoring in time for extracurriculars, breaks, and any other events during the week?
2. What are the core concepts that I am having trouble with?
3. What style of learning is best for me?
4. Do I feel comfortable around this person and that I am in a judgement-free zone?

Details
My standard pricing would be $20 to $25 per hour depending on the difficulty of the subject. However, I understand that the pandemic has taken a huge toll on finances and job availability so I am willing to do a sliding scale to accomodate. Learning is the most important thing.
