About James
I really care about what my students are learning and how well they are recieving the lessons. I take my time to set out indiviual learning plans to for them to follow through.
I also provide knowlegde beyond playing with the industry and studio experinece I have.
It is very self satisfying to be able to bestow music onto others. It has been a big part of my life as a business but also an escape from evertyhing. To see others grow creatively with it is such a rewar.
I actually started teaching fellow band members how to play. Almost ever guitarist I have worked with has loved to jump onto the drums, but it wasn't until one genuinely asked and wanted to learn that I realized I had a knack for this. I have always loved teaching and informing this was just a sign I needed to do this more.
I was taught by a drum instructor for over 5 years, he taught me the basics of grooves, understanding of time and how to read music notation for percussion.
I have spent the last 15 years in the industry working to make music a career. I have done live perfomances, touring and studio work through out those years.

1. Discovering where they are on their music journey
2. Asking what they like and the goals they have for themselves. Even the youngest students have an idea of what they like.
3. Finding/Helping map out practice time/place in their home life. Lot of instructers give you everything you need but never help you figure out how to manage to fit practice time in with everything else in your life.
I have worked with mostly Beginner Level students, and mostly younger. I am open to working with any age and can teach intermidiate level of playing.
Do the research, find someone who really fits what you are trying to learn. Also make sure it's someone you enjoy working with. You don't want to be fearful of bringing up questions or concerns with your teacher. I may not be the best drummer on the planet, but I pride myself with how I am able to listen and adapt.
I am actively playing in a band right now and I am the one who handles all the event booking and marketing so I have a lot of fond memories!
We played a sold out even at the Casbah with a band called Bayside, right before the lockdown. Shoulder to shoulder crowd with a stage barely big enough to hold us. It was a dream.
