About Monique

My tutoring services prioritize the learning style of the student. Some students are visual learners, some are auditory learners, and others need examples and hands-on experiences to properly understand and process the material. During our sessions, I would work with the student to identify which learning style suits them best, and carry out future sessions using that method.

I have a great interest and passion for academics. Whether it's a subject you adore or one that you aren't the best at, it's always fascinating to explore an unknown topic and try your best to better yourself in that area of study. I look to encourage others in finding their own interest and passion in academic subjects.

About the lesson

The first thing I like to do when working with a new student is to ask them to send me already graded work from the subject they need help with, as well as a list of their strengths and weaknesses within that course (i.e. vocabulary, grammar, reading comprehension, literary analysis, plot memorization, etc.). That way, I roughly have a plan on how to proceed with the tutoring by the very first session. The next thing I would do would be to spend the first session assessing successful learning methods for the student, by asking questions like, "What studying methods have worked for you in the past? Do you find it easier to just memorize text or do you work better with examples and relations to the information provided? What is your study schedule like? When are you most productive? Do you prefer studying on your own or do you work better in a group?", and so forth.

I have primarily worked with elementary and middle school students, including an overseas student whom I taught via Zoom.

Ask prospective tutors if they're willing to do a test session with you. I find flexibility and adaptability to be important qualities in tutors, as they are not your teachers, but rather, aiding you in your academic journey. A test session gives students the opportunity to see if the tutor's methods and teaching suit their needs, without the pressure of committing to only one option without exploring others.
