About Elana
Hello, I am excited to meet you and make learning more manageable if my skillset might be of help in these particularly difficult times. Please feel free to ask any and all questions! I offer a free 30-minute session via phone or video conference so we might be able to get to know one another before embarking on short-term or long-term tutoring.
As a recent graduate I am uniquely poised to understand the difficult environment that is zoom and remote learning. It is incredibly challenging to focus and even harder to retain information. I have 6 years tutoring experience and have gone through elite institutions that have allowed me to keep up with a fast paced and rigorous curriculum. I can provide insight for navigating workloads, offer skilled editing and writing help, and help synthesize material in various subjects. I have experience tutoring all English levels up to senior college courses, introduction to calculus and statistics, graduate level art history courses (with expertise in modern European art and contemporary American art), college prep (essay editing and writing), and cv and resume writing. I have always had such a love for education and learning. As an only child for much of my life I often escaped to books to entertain myself after school days. My teachers had such a profound impact on my love of learning due to their patience and passion for education. They absolutely imparted that wisdom onto me and I started to teach as soon as high school. I helped mentor other students and organized study groups to help other students and myself really, as explaining these concepts helped solidify my understanding of the topic.
For high school I attended the Lawrenceville School in New Jersey and for undergrad I studied at Wellesley College in Massachusetts. I took courses at MIT while at Wellesley and attended conferences at schools across the east coast. In terms of tutoring training, I was a tutor in college for art history and English and I helped 5-10 high school students with college applications. I have also helped with career development by structuring CVs and resumes for mid-career professionals looking for a career change.

I ask the student to send their syllabus related to the course to get a better sense of how I might approach the subject. From there, I prepare an agenda for our tutoring session to make the most of our hour. I start with that system for organizational purposes but each approach is different depending on the student. I use about 5 minutes of our first free 30 minute session to ask questions about their learning styles and study habits.
I have worked with students of all ages ranging from 3-25. I find my approach to all interactions is the same, and that is to approach the session with open ears so as to not assume someone's ability or capabilities before seeing how they study. I believe any student can be successful when the proper attention is given.
