About Grace

The further I go in my undergraduate years, the more apparent it has become that my true passion is to become a teacher. I have been blessed with incredible teachers and professors throughout my academic career, and some of the most impactful people in my life have been my teachers. This has instilled in me the value of education, and the power of teaching in a people-centered way. I believe that I would make a great tutor, not just because I love talking through papers and readings with my peers, but also because making students feel intelligent and listened to is a huge passion of mine.

I enjoy teaching students reading and writing because it strengthens their ability to develop out their arguments and express the things they need to express. I see writing as a vehicle of building one's power. In teaching kids the best tips and exercisies to express themselves clearly, I can give them an incredibly important skill for academics and beyond

When I was in high school, my teacher, Mr. Winchester, solidified what I already knew, I wanted to teach. His style in the classroom is to focus on the humanity of his students, and show a kindness and understanding of the student’s lives and all their complexities. He understood that a student’s life does not stop at the classroom door, that all of us bring in our own life experiences that must be respected. He helped me in understanding the world around me and my place in it, and he was there the guide me when I needed it the most. Now, just like him, I would like to teach the humanities at the high school level. I know how powerfully intelligent high school students are, and I want to dedicate my life to creating a space where those kids can learn and grow into themselves.

I currently work as a tutor for the Y-Scholars program through the YMCA. This has given me expirience tutoring everything from AP US History to Physics Honors to basic phonics. My specialty is essay writing, and I ran many college essay writing workshops through my job.

About the lesson

My typical process for working with a student is talking the subject through with them and seeing what makes them passionate. I believe that the best way to learn is to care about the work you are doing. This is especially true for writing, and my essay writing help centers on the student's voice and experiences
