About Caitlin

I have always enjoyed the mechanics and analysis of learning English and reading literature, and I believe that comprehension of those two subjects can lead to deeper knowledge and greater understanding, and can open young minds to want to continue their education for a lifetime.

I enjoy working with children and watching their confidence and excitement to learn grow over time, as they practice the skills that will be important to their educational and lifelong growth.

I took accelerated program classes in English Composition and English Literature in high school, and I scored in the top 20 percentile of the nation on accelerated program testing. These test scores allowed me to skip the general education requirements for English and Literature courses in college, and allowed me to graduate early from my degree program. In addition to my proficiency in these subjects, I tutored high school students for about one year in several other subjects, including English and Foreight Language.

About the lesson

I like to ask the student what they enjoy about the subject they are struggling in/need help in, and what they would like to improve on (using positive growth/reinforcement words instead of "what is challenging" or "what are you not good at"). I like to ask what kinds of in-class activities or work the student likes to do, so I can gauge the types of work they respond to the best. Once I have gathered those pieces of information, I'll put together a game plan with the student of what we will focus on in tutoring sessions, and what goals the student wants to accomplish in these sessions. After several sessions, I would want to give the student a mock test or quiz to gauge their progress, and see what we need to keep working on.

I have worked with high school students while working as a tutor, and I have worked with with toddlers, elementary school, and middle school students in my professional job, and working as a babysitter/nanny.
