About Shawn
I am a #nerdywordygirl. Writing is the one constant that has been in my life as far as I remember. Next to writing is books. Who doesn't love a good book? You maybe? Maybe you have a student who is having challenges with understanding literature or writing strong essays or compositions. As a mom, a homeschooling mom for several years, I have resources that are beyond the classroom and the flexibility/creativity to implement them. I believe everyone wants to learn, but they learn differently, so I help to match my energy with their unique intelligence.
I wanted to be a teacher in college. Teachers made such a difference in my life. Encouraged me to be better, pushed me to follow my passions. Once I had children I wanted to stay at home with them and be their first teacher.

First I have an interview with them casually. Get an idea of what they feel has and has not worked in the past. Why are they having struggles in the area of expression (if it's writing) or comprehension (if it's literature). I find out a lot in that conversation. I also request a writing sample or asking them to analyze a poem to gauage their organizational and critical thinking skills.
