About Patty
I taught middle and high school English, as well as AP Literature for 10 years. I help students make connections to their own lives and the world around us through literature (both classic and current), as well as express themselves in a consise and well organized way.
Teens have so much energy and so much to say. I can help them say it!
I started out substitute teaching, then was hired to teach middle school in 1997. Later, I taught high school until 2016. I have always enjoyed working with teens.
I have a BS in English education, plus several post graduate classes in English and reading education.

First, I like to get to know the student a little bit. We talk about their interests, what they are passionate about. Then I ask to see samples of their current work and what they would like to improve. We set goals. For example, a goal might be that a student t successfully identifies figurative language in a poem and how it contributes to meaning. Or maybe they simply need to know how and when to use commas. We work together to accomplish whatever goals they set.
I have taught all types, from AP students to students with learning disabilities and everyone in betweeen.
I would advise a student to make sure they actually like whom they hire, and to find out if that teacher can address effectively their needs.
While Christmas this year wasn't the same, it was nonetheless very special. We focused on just our family (I have two daughters, ages 21 and 19) and being together. We were able to relax, knowing we didn't have to rush off anywhere. We sat around the fire, watched corny Christmas movies and played with our Labs, Tanker and Blackberry.
