Award-winning, Hohner-sponsored, International Blues touring artist, now on Alligator Records and touring worldwide with the Nick Moss Band. Teaching and performing professionally for over 25 years, in demand as a private instructor and at Harmonica Workshops around the globe.
Most importantly, I LOVE Blues & Rock harmonica and love teaching it! I am self-taught and remember what every step of learning harmonica was like. I cater every lesson to the individual that I am teaching, so our lessons will be focused on how you practice, what you practice, how you learn, what your goals are, and working with your individual strengths and weaknesses. I started teaching a year after I started playing, referred to by an older player who saw me learn faster than he was able to teach me! I have been self-taught and been teaching others for more than 25 years.
I studied some music in school, but my real education came from studying all of the classic blues recordings note for note and learning so many of them...and even getting to jam and perform with some of these blues harmonica originators, masters, and legends (such as James Cotton and Snooky Pryor). Studying blues harmonica has been my life’s work!

The first session is where we get to know each other a little better, and I get a feel for what they already know and understand so this way I can immediately start giving tips and exercises about how to improve habits, build technique and understand more of what is happening on the instrument.
Studens must be willing to take notes and put the time in to practice, but also willing to have fun with it!!
I have worked with absolute beginners, all levels of intermediate and amateur players, all the way up to touring professionals such as myself.
For harmonica lessons, I would say be careful of online videos, especially on this instrument where we can’t see what we do while we play. It’s so important to get a good instructor who understands correct technique and how to work with you to develop good habits and understand what you are doing musically on the instrument. Find someone who is well-respected and has some good student testimonials!
I recently put on another of my own workshops while on tour and a professional who is internationally known and recognized as a major Blues and Soul talent (who I had looked up to for years myself) wanted to come learn from me at the workshop!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Harmonica students should make sure they find a teacher that can teach some basic music theory (don’t worry, it’s not difficult to understand) and also teach them at least SOME tongue-blocking, since this approach is responsible for over 80% of the effects and sounds you can get on the instrument. It is very important to learn this approach, even if you do not want to use it all of the time, it is responsible for so many great harmonica sounds and techniques.
