About Meagan
As an elementary education major, I have learned the basics of math and know how to use strategies to solve problems. I can give students strategies that work on different types of problems, as opposed to using an obscure formula that won't help them in their future math endeavors. I can tutor anything from elementary school math to college algebra, with the exception of calculus. I have done private tutoring for three different families in subjects ranging from third grade math to senior marketing. I am very skilled in working on SAT problems with students, organizational skills, and creating a resume. I currently work at a summer camp and teach sports classes to children in the south Charlotte area, and have a passion for working with students. Something I look forward to in each tutoring job is seeing the "light go off" when the student understands how to do the problem. I will be a senior in college in the fall, and look forward to continue working with children in my career.
I have wanted to be a teacher for my whole life, so when college came and I got the opportunity to start visiting schools and teaching lessons it solidified my love for teaching. In high school I tutored a few different students and was in a club for students with intellectual disabilities, and these opportunities showed me that teaching is what I was made to do.
I have three years of college under my belt, where I have studied elementary education and criminal justice. The combination of these two majors has shown me how children work in different environments, under different conditions, and in different schools. I have had experience teaching lessons in classrooms from Kindergarten to sixth grade, and I have tutored anywhere from second grade to high school seniors. In addition, I have twin brothers that are sophomores in high school and I grew up helping them with their school work as well.

I have worked with a second grade student on basic math skills. This particular student was far behind in her math skills and her parents didn't know how to help her. We worked on basic addition and subtraction skills through fun and interactive games, and as she improved on those skills I added more difficulty until the school year ended and she was on grade level. I also worked with a senior in high school who needed help with math (discrete mathematics), sports marketing, and English. I got him organized and found different systems that worked for him in order to get his work done on time and correctly.
Find a teacher that will work for your needs. Each student has different needs, so think about what is causing you to struggle before finding a tutor. If you struggle with organization, which causes you to miss homework, then finding a tutor that will keep you organized will be helpful. If you struggle with finding solutions to solving problems, find a tutor that has strategies for you. Basically, find a tutor that is suited to meet your needs.
