About Wes
I have been wrestling since I was a little kid, multiple time State placer, State champ in Florida. I have been coaching wrestling at the high school and youth levels for 10 years now and am a USA wrestling certified coach. I have brough many wrestlers in Florida and California to State titles, podiums, and college scholarships. I have also helped bring girl's wrestling programs to high schools in California and work to grow the sport for everyone. I approach coaching wrestling in two parts, on the mat and off the mat. Technique, strength, and conditioning is on the mat. Healthy diet, lifestyle, and mental health are off the mat. Both are necessary to have real success in wrestling and life.
For the past 8 years I have been training and competing in Jiu Jitsu. I am a successful competitive purple belt under Giva Santana at One Jiu Jitsu. I bring a unique blend of high-quality Jiu Jitsu and wrestling technique that works great in competition or for self-defense.
I have mats at my location and I coach out of East Coast West Coast Strength and Conditioning in Costa Mesa.
Wrestling has always been my passion, and coaching as well once I started. I not only gained success on the mat, but off the mat because of the lessons and lifestyle learned through wrestling. I hope to give that back and help others find their own lifetime success through wrestling.
For personal reasons I was unable to accept several college scholarships at the Division 1 level for wrestling. Wrestling is my passion, so I got right into coaching and have been doing it ever since.
I have been wrestling for over 20 years now and coaching wrestling for 10. I am a multiple time State placer and State champion. I have coached over 15 high schoolers to State titles, podiums, or college scholarships in both boy's and girl's high school wrestling. My major is in Kinesiology, and I am a Bronze (age 13+) and Copper (age 12U) certified coach with USA Wrestling. I have been training and competing in Jiu Jitsu for around 8 years. I have won gold or made the podium at IBJJF World's, Pan's, and National's, at JJWL's Season Championship and multiple tournaments, Abu Dhabi Grand Slam champion, and winner of several invitational tournaments.

The first lesson involves a little bit of talking to work out goals for the program (technique, competition, self-defense, diet, nutrition, lifestyle, new skill, etc.). I have a strong focus on fundamentals, position, and motion which in turn allow for higher level techniques to be done properly. Depending on goals, we will work out a plan and a timeframe and get started right away.
Majority of my students are high school level, both male and female, at all skill levels. I have worked with quite a few beginners, and I have worked with just as many making their runs at the State or National tournament. I also work with a good group of 7-12 year olds in a youth wrestling class and with private lessons.
Finding the right coach can be difficult in the sport of wrestling or Jiu Jitsu. I am passionate about what I do and I am always striving to be a better coach. I work on breaking down techniques and motions in easy to understand ways and working towards both muscle memory and conceptual understanding of the position or technique.

Personally, I've been working with Wes for 3 years on wrestling technique and has been responsible for my extreme growth. He'll show you absolutely everything from the basics to the fanciest moves and will make sure you get them right. He's evolved me from a new wrestler to an experience veteran that can understand the basics on an advanced level. He's given me countless advice on competition and always been there to review video and help me learn from my mistakes and grow. Wes is absolutely a phenomenal HIGH HIGH level coach. I would recommend any wrestler from a newcomer to the D1 college level to train and have Wes coach you.
I absolutely love going to Wes for training! I came in knowing absolutely nothing and now 6 months later I’m hoping to compete soon. I definitely appreciate the 1 on 1 training because I have shown more progress that way. He takes his time ensuring I have learned the proper technique. He knows his stuff and I feel like I have learned so much in so little time. He definitely pushes me to do my best!
Aside from his extensive experience, Wes cares very much about the personal success of myself and other students he has. Extremely flexible schedule. Very good with first time students. He keeps sessions very light and fun to introduce basics and concepts to beginners. If you’re looking to have a long term or even permanent coach Wes Is an exceptional choice. Also, is amazing with kids and has been teaching toddlers to high school kids for many years. He is role model for children and even young adults. I give him 5 stars.
Wes is patient and always brings positive energy to the lessons. The best part in my opinion is he will teach you what you need to know to develop your game specifically. I’m a smaller guy and he was able to show me systems that work for me, even though he’s a bigger guy himself.

Details
Standard pricing is $60 for the hour. Open to discussion, I understand times have beent tough lately.
Bring a friend, price is $60 an hour no matter how many wrestlers. Up to 4 max.
Kids class is Wednesday at 4-5 pm. Will move to twice per week if there is enough interest. Price is $40 per child. Focus is 90% wrestling, but basic jiu jitsu, self-defense, and life skills are also integrated. Ages 7-13 welcome.
