About Chris
My acrylic adventures are based on reality but always have an abstract edge. I like to think that I squeeze a little of reality into an abstract scene. By using found or repurposed surfaces I create spatial and dimensional challenges for myself. This helps me treat every piece individually and makes each work unique and very personal.
I share this passion with students who work with me and help them find what makes them want to do more that reproduce a photograph.
I am a big fan of acrylics. I use the mediums, paint, and inks quite a bit. Usually there is some texture in my work either visually done with layers, finishes, and lines or actual texture with paper, sand, pastes and more.
Students will explore several ways to add texture and depth to thier work and find the joy of mark making.

To introduce the process of making abstract art I work with students on color, composition, contract, and method. Abstract art is an experience that each person processes differently. Sometimes the work is not about the end result but the path the artist travels to get there. My students explore mark making, printing, visual and actual texture as well as where and how much to put on a surface. All of these concepts are important. Successful abstract art is much more than tossing stuff onto a surface.
