About Peter
Photography has been a lifelong passion, developing my visual skills as an artist using that discipline as a photographer in the commercial market. The word photography means "painting with light", so that my goal with this medium is to "light the ordinary as extraordinary".
My experience in photography began with 35mm as well as 4x5 film for projects with clients in the Chicagoland area. Presently all of my projects are digital, either in the studio or on location, still life as well as portraiture - quality lighting is key. Use of natural and controlled light applies to any of my projects.
Over the past sixteen years I have had the pleasure of teaching photography on the college level. Courses taught have included Fundamentals of Photo, Photo Essay to Portraiture and Studio Lighting. Recently completed my MFA in Photo degree using the iPhone as my camera of choice, being able to capture "moments in time" (also the title of my series of images). The immediacy of composing and capturing subject matter around me during the day has been inspiring to continue on a personal level.
I've been granted a number of awards throughout my photo career. Those have included the National Addy Award, and others from the Photo Imaging Education Association, Photographers Forum, and the Advertising Society of Media Photographers. My fine art work has been on display in Chicago and galleries across the country.
Presenting online my portfolio of personal and commercial samples of my work can be viewed at my website: (concealed information)
My lifestyle as a photographer has given me not only pleasure, but satisfaction with the photos I've made either in collaboration with others or on my own. Knowing each day there are those in need of my skills and vision to complete their projects makes my career worthwhile.
My first photo class was teaching at a nearby high school's Adult Education Program. They offered an Introduction to Digital Photography nightly course where I covered the basics on camera use, its features, and how to compose quality images.
My training and knowledge has included client and personal photo projects these past twenty-two years. Problem solving photographic issues for clients enables me to work effeciently and effectivley to complete the work at hand.
Within the creative direction of fine art I have obtained a BA in Photo, as well as a MA and MFA in Photo - developing a body of work for each degree. This visual skill enables me to create quality work on a daily basis.

The first step working with a new student is to understand their goals and interest in learning, and to hear what their knowledge of photography is to date.
My range of students have been college age to older adults interested in developing their photographic skills, either with film or digital imagery.
When searching for a photography instructor look at the quality of their photography - the way they use light and how they compose their images.
The best part of teaching is seeing the results at a class critique where the student(s) have understood the assignmnent and taken it to a personal level with quality.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What is it you want to learn or improve your skills on?
Do you have the equipment necessary to use for a specific type of photography?
Does the instructor have the skills to teach them?

Before taking his class, others told me that Peter Bosy was their favorite professor. Now I understand why. His clear explanations, his love for controlled lighting and his individual attention let us develop our own interests. And, his enthusiasm for our successes was encouraging. If offered, I'd sign up for individual instruction by Peter Bosy.
To future photography students,
I highly recommend Professor Peter Bosy. I had him for Studio Photo 1. It was my first college studio lighting class, also teaching how to work efficiently in a studio setting with others. Peter creates a very welcoming and comfortable environment when he teaches. He makes it his priority to try to be there for each student and to be helpful without hovering. He's always open to all the ideas of his students. Peter will recommend that you take notes for each of your lighting setups, but take it from me, you will want to and a little tip, you will probably want to take pictures of each of your setups too. It is great that he insists you get into that habit, because in the real world taking notes for yourself will be incredibly helpful. Peter also tries to show his students real world examples of where you will use the skills you learn in his class. He will insist that you have your camera on manual for all assignments, but if you have a habit of using any of the auto modes, this is great because by the end of the semester you will feel like you know and understand your camera so much better. You will work hard in his class, but you will definitely be better for it. I've taken several photography classes myself, both in high school and college, some I will admit left me feeling like I didn’t learn very much at all. However, Peter's class is one that I really felt like I learned so much and I have taken this with me as I have continued in photography.
Peter Bosy was one of my favorite photography instructors. For commercial lighting, his instruction is thorough and clear. By the end of his class I could confidently light an array of objects with a final image that looked professional. In fact, I've won photography competitions with some of the images that I shot in his class. Best of all, he has a great sense of humor that makes the process of learning interesting AND fun.

My price varies on the time and energy involved in the coursework. In the past each institution I've worked for had a price they paid instructors.
