About Benjamin
I love preforming, teaching, and communicating music! It’s my life and I hope to share it with others.
I started playing piano at 5 years old, and picked up hammered dulcimer around 11 then quickly picked up harp. I look forward to composing in the future. I recorded my first Hammered Dulcimer CD in 2018.
I have had some amazing teachers over the years and look forward to sharing what I have learned.

When you contact me I will gather information to be ready for the first lesson. Generally, the first lesson will be introductions and an evaluation to see where you are at musically. I stick with a curriculum unless something specific is requested.
Beginners to middle advanced. Young & old. It’s imporyant that a child have a 30 minute attention span and be able to sit for that long. I don’t mind a short break if necessary but we need to make the most of our lesson time.
Think about what your goals are and communicate them to the potential teacher. Feel free to ask for references or have the teacher play for you.
I am thankful to come in 2nd place at the 2018 National Hammered Dulcimer Compitition in Winfield,KS.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Consider if you will be able to be committed to learn and make time to practice. Learning music takes time and commitment. I ask my students to build up to practicing 30 minutes 5 days a week; more if possible! Patiences is also a must as well as allowing yourself to make mistakes and learning from them.

Benjamin Barker is an outstanding musician! He has many musical talents and gifts. I am thankful that he decided to teach in addition to his already thriving musical career.
Benjamin is an excellent teacher! His understanding and knowledge of music has far exceeded my expectations.
My son has been taking lessons with Benjamin for a little over eight months. During this short amount of time he has grown tremendously in his piano playing capabilities. My son is already playing for church services every opportunity he gets. His confidence has tripled during the time Mr. Barker has been his teacher.
Benjamin is determined to see his students succeed, and I credit that determination to my children’s success.
If you’re looking for a kind, capable, first-rate teacher... look no further. Benjamin Barker is the one!!Benjamins very patient with young people. Our grandchildren love him and look forward to lessons. Would recommend.
