About Kimberly

(concealed information)

Kimberly Marie Varano, the owner of New Song Vocal Studio, has a passion for artistic beauty and an even greater passion for people!

Kimberly has been singing since before she could talk. Born in New York, she moved to Pennsylvania at age four. Growing up, one could always find her singing in her church and at her school concerts and talent shows, county choruses, and district choruses. She also attended Csehy Summer School of Music for three consecutive summers in high school. Kimberly quickly learned the nuaces of singing in all types of settings: as a soloist, in small ensembles, in a choir, with a band, with an orchestra, etc. She began taking voice lessons at age 11 and, progressing quickly, soon moved on to study under college professors at Muhlenberg College and West Chester University. She began to expand her knowledge and experience performing all different genres and in various languages. Her voice career officially began in 2009 when she was invited to be the featured soloist for the Christmas Eve services at a church near her hometown.

Because singing has always been her passion, Kimberly decided that she wanted to develop her voice even further and study it more comprehensively, so she went on to earn her Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the Wheaton College Conservatory of Music in Illinois. There she studied under the Chair of the Voice Department, Dr. Carolyn Hart and sang with the Wheaton College Women's Chorale. Kimberly was a frequently featured soloist at an innumerable number of concerts, competitions, and events. One such performance was with the Wheaton College Symphony Orchestra in the 2013 Wheaton College Christmas Festival "Before the Marvel", which can be viewed under the "Videos" tab. Her first experience teaching voice came while she was still in college, and she quickly realized that she absolutely loved it! For her, there is a special type of joy that comes from watching her student grow and succeed, even past their own expectations!

After graduating in 2014, Kimberly was offered the soprano position on the summer Music Staff at Camp-of-the-Woods, an esteemed family camp resort and conference center located in the Adirondack Mountains. At summer's end, she returned home to Pennsylvania, eager to begin building her voice studio and leading worship at her home church in Allentown, PA. Currently, she is based in Fort Myers, FL and is extremely excited to begin offering her vocal services online!

Kimberly's vocal journey thus far has bestowed on her a wealth of information and experience that she simply must share with others. She is very passionate about beautiful and healthy singing, about artistic and creative expression, but most of all about her wonderful students! She views each one as a gem with its own beautiful and unique facets, just waiting to be polished and shine brighter than ever! Her heart is filled to the brim when she sees her students' faces light up once they realize they can achieve more than they ever thought they were capable of!

More information and videos of some of Kimberly's performances can be found on her website: (concealed information)

I first discovered my love for teaching when I worked with my first voice student during my undergraduate studies at the Wheaton College Conservatory of Music. Shortly after graduating, I decided that I wanted to pursue teaching voice, and I still love it to this day!

Kimberly offers lessons to anyone looking to improve their voice, no matter age, gender, or level of experience! She has a diverse appreciation for and experience with an array of genres, styles, and languages. From classical art song and opera to musical theatre, jazz, pop, and gospel, she is so excited to work with you to help you unlock your potential and achieve your goals!

Kimberly is a firm believer that there is beauty in the uniqueness of each individual voice and that everyone has the ability to improve with application and dedication.  She personally works with each of her students to assess their strengths, weaknesses, needs, distinct qualities, and personal aspirations to handcraft lessons that are uniquely tailored to the individual. Kimberly wants only the best for her students, so she carefully balances hard work with fun, goals with flexibility, dedication with lighthearted exploration and creative play. She cares deeply about making sure her students always keep their joy and love for singing alive while benefitting from the fruitful rewards of their hard work.

The 60-minute option is highly recommended for most students as there is only so much that can be covered in 30 minutes. Kimberly may, however, recommend a 30-minute lesson for very young students. Choosing the 60-minute option automatically qualifies you for a discount! There are also available discounts when you schedule a sibling package.

Kimberly always starts out her new students with a voice assessment. That simply means she will begin to get to know you and your voice type, goals, preferences, strengths and weaknesses, musical background, etc. It's also a time for you to be able to get to know her! Then she can best determine how to craft the lessons to best help you succeed!

I have worked with a number of different types of students. Most have been in the junior high, high school, and college range. However, I have instructed some younger and older students as well. I'm a firm believer that ANYONE can learn to improve their voice. It's never too late!

Look for someone who is well-rounded in their expertise of the human voice. They need to understand and be able to explain to different levels of students the physical anatomy of the singer as well as the proper techniques and be able to explain WHY these things are important. A good teacher needs to possess the ability to determine how his/her student learns best and adapt his/her teaching methods to best relate to the student.

One of my fondest memories is working with a student who's mother believed him to be tone deaf. This particular student wrote incredible songs and played the guitar beautifully, but he couldn't sing his own melodies. He was extremely shy and scared and didn't believe he could do it. He struggles with pitch-matching and even just singing out enough to be heard. After working with this student for just a couple of months, he was able to pitch-match, sing some scales, and even performed three of his original songs at a recital!! It was one of the most meaningful and moving moments in my entire career of vocal instruction. THAT'S why I do what I do.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
The student should have an idea of what they would like to get out of the lessons. WHY do they want lessons? Is it to sound better when singing for fun? Do they need help preparing for a school musical, a concert, or a vocal audition? Are they working on learning their voice part in a choir piece or preparing to audition for college? Is there a long-term goal? Would they like to pursue music as a career? These are some good questions to think through beforehand. It helps the voice teacher set out proper goals from the start of the lessons to best help the student thrive and set them up for success.
