I reach out to every new student to introduce myself, discuss expectations, and set up a first meeting.
Based on our conversation I design a personalized learning plan and submit it to them for review.
When applicable, I perform an evaluation to have a better understanding of their current knowledge. In the case of kids needing tutoring to improve their grade in school, they are more often than not able to tell me where exactly they need assistance, and then we focus our efforts on those topics.
When students are for any reason not able to tell me where they need help the most, I may contact their school teacher for guidance about the student. I do this with parental approval. Parents are cc'd in all communications I have with their child's teacher. Usually not more than one or two emails.

The tutoring lessons with Sandra helped me understand the concepts of Spanish a lot more and I was able to review and go over lessons from class with the instructor. Sandra was able to form an excellent rapport with my son within just a couple of lessons. He looks forward to his sessions with her and I believe that is because her lessons are very engaging. She did an excellent job at assessing his needs and adapting her approach to his learning style. She has kept me, as a parent, in "the loop" by providing summaries of what they are learning and providing suggestions on how we can support his language acquisition at home as a family. We have had experience with other tutors that weren't quite as effective - I HIGHLY recommend Sandra.
