About Monkey D

Your Partner in Academic Success
Hi there! My name is Liam, and I am currently a Finance student at the John Molson School of Business (JMSB).

I know firsthand that High School can be a whirlwind of complex equations and language barriers. My goal as a tutor is to transform those "I don't get it" moments into "Aha!" breakthroughs. Whether we are tackling the logic of Algebra or mastering the nuances of a second language, I provide a structured, supportive, and professional environment where students feel confident to ask questions and excel.

Why Work With Me?

Academic Rigor: As a Finance major, my daily life revolves around advanced mathematics and analytical thinking. I bring that same precision to high school math, ensuring students don’t just memorize steps but truly understand the logic.

True Bilingualism: Being a native French speaker living and studying in an English academic environment, I have mastered the bridge between the two languages. I can explain complex concepts in either language to ensure total clarity.

Professionalism & Reliability: I treat every tutoring session as a commitment to your success. I am organized, punctual, and come prepared with a tailored plan for every lesson.

A Relatable Approach: I’m not just a teacher; I’m a student who was in your shoes not long ago. I explain things in plain language, skip the jargon, and focus on the tips and tricks that actually work during exams.

What I Offer

Math: Algebra, Geometry, Functions, and Exam Prep for all High School levels.

English & French: Conversational fluency, grammar mastery, and essay writing. I help students find their "voice" in a new language.

Flexibility: Lessons are available in person (Montreal area) or via Zoom/Teams, tailored to your schedule and pace.

Let’s Reach Your Goals Together

The difference between a "good" grade and a "great" grade is often just a bit of personalized guidance and a boost in confidence. I am here to provide both.

Ready to get started? Send me a message, and let's discuss how we can tackle your next challenge!

About the lesson

1. Teaching Methodology & Techniques
I bridge the gap between "getting the answer" and "understanding the logic," whether that’s in a math equation or a sentence structure.

For Math: I focus on Logic-First Learning. I help students see math as a language of patterns. I emphasize showing your work—not just for marks, but to identify exactly where the "logic leak" is happening.

For Languages: I use Natural Immersion & Context. Instead of just rote conjugation tables, we practice "functional fluency"—learning the grammar through topics the student actually cares about (music, hobbies, or current events).

The "Switch" Technique: Since I am fluently bilingual, I can explain a complex math concept or a subtle English grammar rule in French (and vice versa) to ensure the student truly "clicks" with the concept before moving back to the target language.

2. A Typical Lesson Plan (60 Minutes)
I keep sessions dynamic to ensure high schoolers stay engaged:

Time Segment Focus
0-10 min The "Warm-Up" Math: Mental math or a quick review of homework. Language: A 5-minute conversation about their day in the target language.
10-35 min Core Lesson Math: Breaking down the new formula/concept. Language: Introducing new vocabulary or a specific grammar rule (e.g., past tense).
35-50 min Active Practice Math: Solving 3-5 problems ranging from easy to "exam-level." Language: A short reading or writing exercise followed by verbal correction.
50-60 min The Recap Clarifying any lingering doubts and setting a clear "Game Plan" for the upcoming week.
3. What Sets Me Apart
The Relatable Mentor: As a university student, I remember exactly what high school exams feel like. I’m not a distant lecturer; I’m a coach who was in their shoes just a few years ago.

The Bilingual Edge: I can teach Math in English or French. This is incredibly helpful for students in French Immersion or those attending French schools who might be struggling with the terminology.

Adaptable Pacing: I don’t follow a "one-size-fits-all" curriculum. If a student needs three sessions to master Quadratic Equations or the Subjonctif, we take that time.

4. Target Audience
Math: High school students (Secondary 1-5 / Grades 7-11), focusing on Algebra, Functions, Geometry, and Pre-calculus.

Languages: * High schoolers looking to boost their grades in English or French class.

Adults or beginners who want to learn conversational English or French from a native/fluent speaker.

Specificities: I am particularly helpful for students in the Montreal area navigating the challenges of a bilingual academic environment.
