About Helena
I am a first year Economics and Politics student at the University of York. I achieved 9 GCSE's with grades 7s and 8s, including an 8 in GCSE Mathematics. I also further studied A-Level Mathematics which I ended up obtaining a Grade A in. When I was younger I received tutoring in Maths because I did not receive much support in the subject at school. I did not always understand Math concepts the first time round, but my tutor taught me with patience and I not only improved my grades but also learnt how to pick up concepts quicker. I gained so many skills from one-on-one lessons such as perseverance and analytical skills. Apart from my experiences some things I enjoy doing in my spare time are reading fiction books and trying out new cafe's.

- I have experience tutoring classmates and family friends in GCSE mathematics.
- I am a patient tutor as I understand not every student will understand a certain mathematical concept the first time they are taught it. I am to boost the student's confidence in maths.
- I will tutor any student in mathematics up to Year 11 (GCSE) and the lessons will be 1 hour long.
- In our first session we will discuss the student's areas of difficulties and will create a plan to break down these topics in further sessions.
- We will set a target grade the student is aiming to achieve and will work towards that.
- Each lesson we will first start by discuss the theory of that topic. I will then go through some examples where the student will learn how to apply the theory to questions. I will then end the session by going through some past paper questions that I will have prepared before the class. I will guide the student through the first past paper question. The student will then complete the rest of the questions with myself being there to answer any questions they might have
- I will also be available to answer any math problems the student might have mid-week and will reply on the same day
- Towards the end of the year (and especially if the student is in Year 11) we will go through past papers and I will teach exam technique
