About Flora
I taught for courses in General Chemistry, Molecular & Cellular Biology, and Genetics for 7 years as a Teaching Fellow at Harvard University. In addition, I taught General Chemistry & Organic Chemistry at Harvard Extension School for 2 years. I have also offered private tutoring in Chemistry & Biology since 2018.
My students love my teaching style, which is warm, patient, and approachable. I have taught high school, college, and post-baccalaureate students of a wide range of ages. I believe that no one is too young or too old to connect with the principles of scientific study. I am very comfortable working with students who have struggled with science in the past and enjoy helping them to connect with the material in a new way.

Science can be intimidating for students of all ages, making it difficult for students to connect with the material. My first goal is to make the material feel safe and approachable, and I offer a warm, patient, and humorous teaching style which creates a sense of comfort and familiarity with my students.
When we get to work, I break down concepts to their most fundamental level and can find multiple ways of explaining the same idea until I find the one that connects with the student I'm working with. I offer visual illustrations and write down notes as we go along which I offer to my student at the end of each session.
A typical session involves sample problems from the student's coursework as a launching point. I will then break down the concepts contained within that problem and address them individually, before building back up to the problem at hand. Once the concepts have been explained and understood, I will have the student attempt to solve a similar problem while I offer assistance as needed. In this way, the student builds the skills and confidence to approach problems on their own.
I work with students of all ages, and can assist with high school, undergraduate, and post-baccalaureate coursework in General Chemistry, Molecular & Cellular Biology, and Genetics.

Flora is an amazing tutor and teacher! She really helped me understand the difficult concepts in chemistry, and was very kind, encouraging, and patient through it all. I couldn't recommend her more highly!
Flora was my tutor for General Chemistry and she was fantastic! So much so she has continued to be my tutor for Organic Chemistry. She prides herself in creating positive experiences for her students and adapts her delivery based on the needs of the student. She is patient and always meets you where you are at. Chemistry is a tough subject and Flora does a really great job of simplifying complicated terms into digestible information. I highly recommend hiring her!
