About Devin
I've now been in the field for 20 years, tutor 15 APs, as well as college essays and the SAT/ACT. My students have gotten into nearly every selective university and usually report 4s and 5s on the exams and increases of roughly 100 points per section (or 3 points if we're talking ACT). At boutique tutoring companies and at USC, I've been a tutor, curriculum designer, trainer, and instructor. As a writing professor and curriculum designer, I know exactly what teachers and professors are looking for, both in the classroom and in admissions. I’ve designed and taught college-level courses in writing and literature, and I bring that behind-the-scenes knowledge to every session. I also have friends in admissions and know what makes an essay stand out (or flop). I’m fun and relatable. I’ll help you nail that essay, crush your SAT score, or untangle Hamlet—but I’m not going to bore you. The more enjoyable learning is, the more you retain and the better you do.

My approach is very dynamic - I work with everyone from middle schoolers to med students, so there's not one answer. On essays alone, for some students, it's a polish. For others, it's tear it all down and start from scratch. I will respond to your needs rather than have a concrete plan, but I draw from decades of experience. My method is socratic when it can be, but I can go into "take the wheel and lecture" mode if you want me to.
