About Sophie

Hi! I'm Sophie, a native Chinese speaker from Taiwan.

I've been teaching Chinese for over six years, working with students from diverse backgrounds, ranging from complete beginners to advanced learners, professionals, and exam candidates. Throughout my teaching journey, I've helped students improve their speaking skills, prepare for HSK and TOCFL exams, communicate confidently in professional settings, and connect more deeply with Chinese-speaking friends, family, and colleagues.

Before becoming a full-time Chinese teacher, I worked in business development and account management, collaborating with international clients across North America, Europe, and Asia. This professional experience allows me to offer practical Business Chinese and help students navigate real-world communication in both social and workplace environments.

As a language learner myself, I understand that every student has different goals, interests, and challenges. That's why I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Whether you're interested in travel, culture, history, current events, business, or simply having more natural conversations, I'll tailor our lessons to help you learn Chinese in a way that is engaging, practical, and meaningful.

My goal is not only to teach you Chinese, but also to help you express yourself confidently and naturally in the language.

I look forward to helping you on your Chinese-learning journey!

About the lesson

Learning Chinese shouldn't feel like memorizing endless vocabulary lists you'll never use.

My lessons are fully personalized based on your goals, interests, and learning style. Whether you're learning Chinese for travel, business, social conversations, exam preparation (HSK/TOCFL), or personal interests such as history, politics, culture, or current events, we'll focus on the language that is most relevant to you.

I believe the best way to learn a language is to use it to discuss topics you genuinely care about. Rather than relying solely on textbooks, I create lessons around your interests and real-life situations, helping you build practical communication skills while naturally expanding your vocabulary and understanding of grammar.

In our lessons, you'll learn how to:
• Start and maintain natural conversations
• Express your thoughts, opinions, and ideas with confidence
• Improve pronunciation and sound more natural
• Use Chinese in real-life social and professional situations
• Understand cultural nuances and everyday expressions
• Communicate more like a native speaker

I teach:
✓ Traditional Chinese (Taiwan Mandarin)
✓ Simplified Chinese
✓ Zhuyin (Bopomofo)
✓ Pinyin
✓ Conversational Chinese
✓ Business Chinese
✓ HSK & TOCFL Preparation

My teaching style is supportive, practical, and interactive. I don't believe in teaching Chinese that you'll never use. Instead, I help students develop the confidence and skills to communicate naturally in everyday life, social settings, travel situations, and professional environments.

Whether you're a complete beginner or an advanced learner, I'll create a personalized learning plan that matches your goals, interests, and pace.

Let's turn Chinese from a subject you study into a language you actually use.
