About Akintayo
Reflecting on how this skill came to be, I find the origin hard to place. Could it be the intentional parenting I got, could it be because my father is such an eloquent speaker, could it be because back in my high school days I used to read the news on the Assembly every Friday and later became President of the Press Club,
could it be because I studied English Education for my bachelors and we are trained to attain a certain level of proficiency, or is it because my extensive background in the media and entertainment industry, running a publicity company and a record label.

I am grateful for the opportunity to reflect and share my story, my journey as a guest speaker at the Reach Up - Black Mentoring Event, organised by the University of Plymouth Student Union in celebration of the Black History Month. I benefited greatly from listening to the wide array of powerful stories & experiences possessed by all the speakers and also networking them.
As a young black academic, I advised students on how to reclaim and rewrite certain narratives society has forced down our throats in terms of limits to what you can achieve or restrictions to certain sectors for jobs. Pulling from little experiences I offered insights as to how students can break the society down into segments, identify and target specific segments they can add the most value based on their skills and thus position themselves as a purpose-driven value oriented member of society whose name will not be soon forgotten.
