About Jessica

I am a recent graduate of the University of Southern California who is now pursuing a Master's degree at NYU! In college, I tutored students on SAT prep, essay writing, as well as college consulting at Ivy-Way Academy in Taiwan.

I worked as a teaching assistant during the Academy's intensive 6-week summer SAT prep course, helping students with reading, writing, and math problems and concepts. I also have individual tutoring experience, teaching essay writing and helping students with their college applications.

Some of my students have gone on to attend USC, Brown, University of California Davis, Purdue, University of British Columbia, and more.

Personally, I scored a 2260/2400 on the old SAT system, earning 730 in Reading, 750 in Writing, and 780 in Math. I was a staff writer for my university's newspaper for two years, and I also wrote for the online platform The Odyssey. I am fluent in Mandarin on top of English, and I also took a few years of French.

Although my academic studies are in other fields, I have always harbored a passion for education. I look forward to working with you towards academic success!

About the lesson

I am currently a graduate student studying Cyber Security, but I obtained my undergraduate degree in International Relations and Economics. I also minored in Computer Programming and Digital Forensics during my undergraduate career.

I generally tutor high school students, but depending on the subject, I would love to tutor anyone who is interested in any of the fields I study!

My style of tutoring is all about critical thinking and exploration, at least in terms of writing and college prep. I encourage students to trust their minds and not be afraid to write down their most genuine thoughts. With more technical subjects like math, I stress the importance of practice. I will walk students through different types of problems, ensuring that they not only learn the answer, but also understand the processes to get to the answer.

I also strongly believe that every student is different, and therefore every lesson I give will be personalized to the student's pace and dominant learning method.
