About Joe
I have been playing electric and acoustic guitar for 11 years and have been playing bass guitar for 8 years. Over these years I have played for many bands including my current band Ten Hands High, played in many musical orchestra pits, and have taught for 3 years at Long Lake Camp for the Arts in New York. I have a huge passion for both instruments and enjoy passing on all of the knowledge I have gained over these years to others.
I have taught guitar for 3 years at Long Lake Camp for the Arts which is one of the best creative arts camps in America. Here I taught up to 12 lessons every day to students ranging in ability from complete beginner to advanced. I have a Level 4 diploma in electric guitar performance, grade 8 in both electric and bass guitar, and have a degree from the University of Leeds in Mathematics and Music. As well as this I am a qualified teacher and have obtained QTS certification as well as a PGCE from the University of Sheffield.

Guitar and bass lessons with me come in two forms, depending on the type of goals you want to achieve as a player. Lessons can be informal, student-led lessons, where the student knows what they want to learn beforehand and know what repertoire and skills they want to learn. This type of lesson is usually for players who have a bit of experience and know what they want to get out of the lessons. Lessons can also be formal, teacher-led lessons, where the student follows a syllabus of material I have collected. This is best for beginners and also for learners who want more structure in their lessons. Guitar content is but not limited to chords, scales and arpeggios, sight reading, rhythm, new techniques, music theory and aural training. Despite this structure, I am a firm believer that students learn best through learning songs that use the skills and theory that they have acquired, so this is always a key component to my lessons. This also makes the lesson more fun and enjoyable, which is always important!
As a player who has completed grades 1-8 in both electric and bass guitar, I know how much grades can improve a guitarist’s skill set. They test a variety of skills such as improvisation, aural training, sight reading and general knowledge of the guitar and completing them shows a clear sign of progression for the student. They are however not for everyone, and I realise that a lot of people want to play simply for the enjoyment of playing, so this is something I completely understand. As your teacher I would help you prepare for these exams thoroughly and ensure you get the results that you desire.
Lessons take place at my office in Ascot. Here I have a dedicated music room with all the equipment and resources needed to deliver lessons.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
Over the years, I have been working with Joe in a variety of musical jobs. He has consistently delivered the most technically challenging, emotive and flexible performing style you could wish for in a colleague. He is extremely pragmatic and can invoke the best from anybody. Simultaneously, he encourages an individuals musical flare which is not common with many teachers. I learn something new every time I work with him.
To put it metaphorically...
Some language teachers will simply tell you the words and their direct translations. Joe, on the other hand, will teach you to speak.View more recommendations
