About Gavin
A qualified, diligent and dedicated teacher with QTLS and current DBS Certificate on the Update Service. My most recent position was teaching GCSE English at Stoke- On- Trent College. Previous to this I was teaching Home Tutored students from Year 7 to Year 11.
I have taught Functional Skills English at Werrington YOI in Stoke on Trent. .. Functional Skills English and Maths to offender learners (Category C Prisoners) at HMP Stafford and GCSE English at South and City College in Birmingham. I have experience of Teaching SEN learners and Teaching Assistant roles in schools across Staffordshire. I was Interim Acting Head of Silver Birch School in Shard End Birmingham.
I believe in the removal of barriers to learning and understand the challenges faced by learners in trying to achieve their goals, due to external environmental and personal factors which can have a negative impact on their learning. For me teaching and learning are very important and prepare the way for both young people and adults to venture into the work place. I possess the ability to motivate learners’ and develop strong ties; enhanced by my mentoring role which has enabled me to work with students’ both individually and in groups,thus catering better for their needs.
